221 Fireball
« on: January 15, 2020, 06:44:31 AM »
Did CZ produce a rifle at one time in 221 Fireball? I am researching what I need to do and what gunsmith to use to get/build one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, If I remember correctly in the mid 2000's they brought in some 527 American's (sporter barrels) in 221 Fireball. I have never played with the 221 Fireball 527's so please take what follows with a grain of salt. I believe that the 221 Fireball magazine is a blocked version of the 222 Remington. Similar to the spacer block in the 17/22 Hornet magazines. The 17/22 Hornet and 222 Remington use a shorter length magazine and bottom metal (mag well length) than the 223 Remington and 204 Ruger 527's. If you were building a 221 Fireball 527 and use a donor 223 Remington action I think you'll have to swap the bottom metal if you want to use the 221 Fireball magazines. If you dont plan on using the magazine then the basic 223 Remington action should work. That's the only potential hiccup I can think of. The 221 Fireball 527 rifles show up used on various sites semi regularly. A 222 Remington donor would work just by swapping out the magazine and setting back the barrel with a rechamber.
