There seems to be some data on Brian Enos forum.

Not a lot of reloading info out there on this older low pressure cartridge.

A search of The High Road only turned up die selection suggestions. And that's the know-all, end-all site for me.

I bet the our Guru in Residence, Reloader Fred, can contribute.

Please stay tuned.

IMHO, load development is going to demand a chrono. A chrono will be one of the only ways to accurately monitor chamber pressure, which is extremely important for your safety.

I say this because a lot of the handguns using this cartridge were made before 1) steels were pressure tested and 2) using modern metal alloys, which helped usher in the age of 38Special and 357Mag chamber pressures.

• • One should also NOT assume that modern black powder replacements, commonly used in Cowboy Action Shooting, run at the necessary lower chambers of Black Powder. These are powders such as  Trail Boss, Tin Star and similar. These are modern smokeless powders and as such run at the same high pressures as the powders you already have on hand.

Depending upon the age of your handgun, you may want to consult the specialty antique handgun forums for more concise information.

Hope this helps.

Wobbly I here you but I will be using this in a modern handgun that I will be using in USPSA matches the short brass goes in and out with moon clips rather quickly for fast reloads and yes the loads there using in these modern handguns SHOULD NOT BE USED IN OLDER GUNS
it is great to here someone like you that has true knowledge on reloading not just another keyboard expert I Thank you for helping out

Ron -
Full Disclosure Mode: Gotta tell you this buddy... the only reason I know all that is that I got slapped down on another board where they deal with older cartridges on a regular basis !!

So you have a modern revolver you use for Action Shooting, and the 38 Short simply loads faster ? Did I get that correct ? I'd like to know more about that and see photos of your gun.

I'm always impressed by someone shooting revolver that fast.

Joint a free photo hosting site like Imgur.

After the upload, that site will issue you links to the photo you can use here.

Use something that looks like this "(img width=640) https://i.imgur.com/lwCYZDO.jpg(/img)"  But use [] instead of ().

Actually, when you are in IMGUR and looking at the close-up of your photo, it will list out several codes to the right of the photo. If you'll click on the blue "Copy" button next to "BBCODE", it will Copy the photo's web address into your computer's memory.

Then, while writing your CZ Forum post, you can position the cursor where you want the photo to appear in the text and Paste (Cntrl-V) the address into the text.

If you then hit the "Preview" button at the lower RH corner, you'll be able to see the photo positioned in your text.

I've looked through reloading books as far back as 1970, and find nothing. Then quite by accident I saw last night that the Hodgdon online reloading center has info about that cartridge in 93 and 135gr. That's the first, and only, info I've found.

http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol

With hard data like that, then you can make proportions and work out to 147gr. Possibly even making parallel proportions to other small-cased 38's like 380Auto. You can only do this because you have a modern handgun, that won't have any trouble with chamber pressure. If you get to a point where the brass is hanging up in the cylinder, then stop. That's a big over-pressure sign for revolvers.

Hope this helps.
