Needless to say I'm bummed out over my luck but such is life, has anyone had this happen to them? The little part that is supposed to engage the spring on the decocker simply split in half while the magazine was out of the gun and I was learning about the safety functions, practicing moving the slide and just getting comfortable with it, never even loaded any rounds in it! I used the decocker maybe 10 times? next thing I know the little piece that's on the decocker shaft is split in half, fell off the shaft and tumbled out the magazine hole to my feet. Decocker still moves, much more freely, but no longer disengages the hammer.

I'm concerned there's more damage inside, but I have 0 clue as to what to look for, the only thing I did was to take it apart for cleaning with the slide/barrel off to see where the pieces go which pretty quickly became obvious. Everything else "looks" ok, will CZ repair actually fire the weapon at their place? I hope they do.

earlier today I submitted a warranty claim, the store I bought it from didn't seem too interested in looking at it so I didn't push the issue. The store is very legitimate, they were super helpful, biggest place in my area so not some shady van-down-the-river type of shop.

If you submitted warranty claim... nothing to dig deeper. Hopefully CZ will replace the decocker and you will enjoy shooting soon.

CZ will take care of it. Got any pics of the actual part so we can see how it broke?

The retailer never handles warranty claims. It always has to go back to the manufacturer. I've had issues with SIG's, Kimber and CZ. They all stand behind their products.

Take a look at the videos I made on the P-09 assembly/disassembly and see if you can put it back together before sending it back to CZ, if you want to take the time.

Any chance the part you say split in half simply slide off the shaft when you removed the decocker?  Or was the leg on the part broken off?

Not entirely true....in that a lot of retailers (typically not the big box types) will handle shipping the firearm back to the maker for you, which can save the owner a sum of money (that they will then likely spend at said retailers  ;) ) but you're right, the retailer isn't going to do the repair, nor will they (usually) contact the manufacturer for warranty work for you.

This is really a shame, my p09 has been a rock solid beast of a pistol with no issues. Every manufacturer will have a lemon from time to time, I hope you get your issue resolved. Be sure to let us know how it goes

Contact CZ, maybe they'll send you another decocker lever.

CZ will either send you a shipping label or a decocker.  No need to think about losing on shipping costs.  (Not like that 10 years ago, but GTG now).

I appreciate it, but there's no putting it back, it completely split in half, I'll post a pic in a second.

Any time I've had warranty work done the manufacturer has sent me a prepaid shipping label.  There was no additional expense to me.

Tough to take pics of it, the part is tiny, but it's a clear metal break

and notice the flat spot next to the spring? then look at the pic up top in my original post, the decocker is still in there just missing that "tab" , by the way, is that broken part something you would put ON the safety shaft if you were to switch it over? I'm not going to do that, I like the idea of decocker more, but I'm curious if it's supposed to be removable or just part of decocker.

Hard to tell it depends on how busy they are. I just sent a P10 to CZ. The paperwork said 4 to 6 weeks so we will see. I had a problem with a Kimber and it was back to me in 2 week.

I think in this case it would be good idea to ask CZ for new decocker lever, instead of shipping label. There is no repair, just part replacement, so instead of 4 - 6 weeks it can be 1 - 2 weeks.
But this is my guess only, that CZ would wish to send the part based on pictures only...  ???
