it took me 20 minutes to get the slide off while watching youtube videos lol, I'm far from comfortable with replacing weapon parts, but I guess I could find a gunsmith nearby to do it for me and test all of its functions.

That is smart move if you are not comfortable with the pistol... however... you should use this issue you already had and learn this stuff.  8)
Eventually you will have to know how to field strip your firearm, replace springs, make complete cleaning / lube...
It is always good to know your tools.  8)

and notice the flat spot next to the spring? then look at the pic up top in my original post, the decocker is still in there just missing that "tab" , by the way, is that broken part something you would put ON the safety shaft if you were to switch it over? I'm not going to do that, I like the idea of decocker more, but I'm curious if it's supposed to be removable or just part of decocker.

That's a Decocker only part. You'd remove that whole decocker assembly and put in the manual safety assembly. Pistol should've come with both assemblies.

I would install the safety (easier to do than installing the decocker) and have CZ send a new decocker assembly. While you're waiting you can still shoot and you might even prefer it configured this way.

You might even find someone on this board who would send you theirs free as some folks prefer the safety to the decocker.

Good call on the safety install. At least you can shoot it. The piece that broke was most likely defective to begin with. CZ will probably just send you that piece or a complete new decocker assembly. They sent me a new safety assembly one time even though all I need was the little plastic safety detent. I'd keep the old parts though. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined then I agree that this is a good opportunity to get on youtube and other sources to learn how to replace/repair parts. Nothing more satisfying then completing a repair yourself. That leaves more money for MOOOOORE GUUUUUUNS!  :o ;D

I Understand, but I don't want a safety, I prefer (on paper) the idea of decocker, but you are correct, it did come with the safety replacement instead so I *could* make the gun functional now if I wanted to

Any time I've had warranty work done the manufacturer has sent me a prepaid shipping label.  There was no additional expense to me.

I can't speak to CZ but there are manufactures out there that don't pay for shipping on warranty work (though sometimes it depends on the csr you speak to and how you speak to them!)

OP - since you've got the safety, I'd say install it and see if CZ will send you the replacement part. If they will, try and take care of the repair on your own and if you feel like you're in over your head, ask questions, watch some videos and try again....if you still feel overwhelmed then find a smith to finish the job.

IIRC there are some great videos on this forum dealing with installing the safety or decocker. Not nearly as complicated as it seems at first blush...

Sorry for the bad luck before even getting to shoot it. This is not normal at all, so dont be worried. The P09 is an outstanding weapon and you will be impressed once you get it running. I have has a few CZ warranty repairs now and they will pay shipping if needed. Since the decocker is made to be changed out with the safety maybe they will just send you a decocker. Caleb is who has took care of me on all of my warranty service. If you need a point of contact give him a shout!

I had a trigger return spring break on a P-09 , sent it off and they had it back in a reasonable amount of time . They covered all the shipping and repair cost . Been running great since .

Take a look at the videos I made on the P-09 assembly/disassembly and see if you can put it back together before sending it back to CZ, if you want to take the time.

Zrouta--From page 1.  Sorry about the failed part and thanks for posting the photo.  I was having a tough time understanding what broke.   Another question, do you have an idea as to why the slide was so difficult to remove the first time?  Is there a chance the slide removal difficulty is related to the part breaking?

I have seen someone post about that specific part of the decocker assembly breaking, either here or on some other forum, or maybe the CZ subreddit.  People were commenting that it must have been a bad MIM part.

I also saw they sold that specific part on the CZ-USA website:

https://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/545100000030_Decocking-Lever-Cam-P07p09

My recommendation to you is to ship the gun to CZ-USA and let them do it, unless you have a friend who is already familiar with the P-07 / P-09 reassembly who can do it for you.  If you aren't mechanically inclined and not confident about doing it yourself, now isn't the time to try.

Most of us here would just ask them to send us a new decocker lever which that part would come attached to, and then we'd put it in.  However, it can be tricky to get the decocker assembly back in with the spring, so I wouldn't advise you to try it right now.

Personally I have two P-07's with decockers, have had them both apart plenty of times, thousands of rounds and many, many dry fires through each, never had a problem with that part, never knew it was a separate part from the decocker lever until I saw it on the CZ-USA website.  I wouldn't even know how to remove and replace that specific part, I'd just get a new lever, which I already have a spare of anyway.
