P01 It's Here! It's Here!
« on: February 01, 2020, 08:29:08 PM »
Turns out, it was actually in 5 days ago. But no one bothered to tell me.  ::) Not that I really care. Boss was busy taking care of her web business. The blokes in the store know we're best buds, they left it for her to tell me. Bottom line ... it's here!! And in my hands. This baby was bone dry. I'd heard most CZs were coming out of the box with some super secret CZ sauce all over them. Not this one. Barely even got a cotton pad dirty, and that was probably just the residue from the test fire. Not a biggie there, either. I went ahead with my regular routine of cleaning and lubing. And it's ready for the range next Tuesday. I'll be doing a bit o'dry firing during the Uber Bowl tomorrow. Should help a bit.

Couple of things, tho'. First, no real intention to do any mods until I've fired a good 100 - 150 thru it. Still, it begs at least one question right off. The DA trigger pull is long, but exceedingly smooth. No grit, just long. The SA is so sweet, short and easy. I don't think it needs anything done to it. So, I'm wondering if it's possible to lighten the DA pull, but not the SA pull? Or is that sort of a package deal. i.e., do one, it does the other? Not saying I'm going to do that, but can't hurt to ask. Second (third, fourth?) in the obligatory pic below, there's a tool that came with the pistola. Obviously, one end is a screwdriver for the grips. But what the heck is the pointy end for?

Obligatory phone pics below. Altho' I suspect they all look alike at birth. Still, these are pics of my P-01.  8)

Oops, thought of something else. How do I change the mag drop button to the right side? Or can I? Thought that might be in the manual. But alas, no joy.

The pointy end is used to push the mag release out when cleaning the "pistola"

Congratulations, I think you will love it. Only one magazine and no bore brush? I thought two magazines was standard and mine came with a bore brush too.

You can change the hammer spring only to lighten the trigger pull in DA and not affect SA, I think?

Keep us posted as you get some rounds through it!

Richard

Edit to add: I forgot to mention that the mag release can be changed to the other side by flipping it over. There are a couple springs underneath a large headed screw just forward of it inside. You need to lift the spring up to clear the mag release, Pull it out and reverse it, then lower the springs and tighten the screw again. BTW, that screw is tight and probably held with Loctite, so beware.

KennyE, congtrats ! That's one of the best purchases you could do  8)
I'm glad you  like the trigger (most of P-01 users are looking for replacement parts right away).
Do your 150 rounds, however I'd suggest 300 - 400 rounds before you decide to do anything  with the pistol.

To lighter DA and keep SA intact you go with lighter hammer spring for sure. As addition I'll go with CGW "Reduced Power Trigger Return Spring" as well.
If you go with spring lighter that #15 it will require "extended firing pin", so it's better to go directly with CGW "54420 Ultra-Lite Kit"

Will do the more rounds thing before mod'ing. Except for maybe the lighter hammer spring .......  ::) Which should be fairly easy to undo. BTW, put fluorescent paint dots on the sights, for now. Both front and rear. Not sure I'm ready for blacked out rear sights. My FFL gal couldn't find any of the TruGlo's I wanted in stock. And not sure I want to drill a retaining slot into new sights (meps, trij).  :-\

TWo mags, one is in the pistol. Bore brush is behind the curtain. It's all there. Just didn't feel the need to take a pic of it all. But I do appreciate the heads up, just in case I didn't get them. Good deal on the hammer spring. I'm really liking the SA in dry fire. That DA is ... well, new. We'll see where it sits after the 300+ "break in" rounds.

Thanks, guys!!

Thanks, DT. Thing is, I don't really care for those. Look like they'd sort of sit on top of the slide, rather than "in" the slide. The front is okay. But the rear looks too long, too high off the slide. I could be wrong of course. Since I'm sure there are plenty of people here with those exact sights. THESE are the ones I was looking at.

This is what they look like on my P-01

Sorry for the poor quality photo it's hard to hold the pistol and take a picture at the same time [emoji44]

Glad you like it, nice pistola. I received one a few days ago, and like yours was bone dry, but very clean! I’ll  be taking it on it’s maiden voyage to the range tomorrow.

Did you find it weird that it was dry? I know I read somewhere that CZ usually were pretty mucky out of the box. Maybe they've changed their approach. ???

Mine's maiden voyage (I like that!) will be Tuesday. Would be interesting to come back and compare experiences. Skill level accepted, of course. Right now mine is getting lots of dry fire, with snap caps. And as much racking as my fingers will take. The slide is stiff, the spring is stiff, and the serrations on these puppies are sharp! Hopefully that will ease up a bit, as well, after a few K rounds.

I bought a new PCR yesterday and found the same thing - I broke it down expecting the usual amount of packing grease to be removed, and found that it was bone dry.

Great choice on sights. I just ordered those in white for my new P01. Like you I'm not a fan of how big the TFX sights are. Love the U-notch of the Pro Tritium.

Economy...  :o
CZ is saving their money on grease  ;)
They know we are going to put a lube on the firearms.
