Carried the P-01 for the first time today...
« on: February 18, 2020, 09:29:11 PM »
It’s a work in progress. I tried an IWB that works well for my Commander 1911, but between the thickness of the leather, the thickness of the gun, and those rubber base pads, it was a no go. I ended up using a pancake holster which was also for my 1911. It still printed but not nearly as badly. I’m now thinking Kydex, OWB, middle back canted 35 degrees or so. I sure could use some suggestions. To you who are carrying this pistol: what is your set up and how do you like it? Pluses and minuses. Thanks

The only advice I have for you is don't worry about printing, nobody has a clue except a trained observer. As for a rig that works, you have to try them out to see what works best for you.

Yeah, I agree.   Most won't ever notice you printing.

I recall being at my mom's place and a dude stopped over for a function with two guns on his belt loud and clear.  My mom had no clue until I told her days later.

And try a bunch of holsters to see what works best for you.  My favorite holster is $20-30 on eBay and I have one for each of my carry pistols.

I recently got a Vedder "Light Tuck" holster for my 75 Compact PCR. Simple, slim and works great. I carry AIWB pretty much every day.

I got a Neptune owb holster and mag carrier. The quality is good for kydex. I prefer leather owb though. If you're interest  in it let me know.

I have my P01 in a JMCK AIWB. I have a high ride / canted leather holster I made that I'll wear at 4 o'clock that doesn't print too much.

As others have stated, most people wont notice anyway.

The rubber base pads suck, buy some MecGar mags from gregcotellc.com, they have a hard plastic baseplate and more capacity.

I've carried my PCR (same gun no rail) for over 10 years now and will never give it up. I have a Don Hume pancake holster I carry it in on my right hip at the 3-4 O'clock position. Printing has really never been an issue but a proper cover garment is essential to that. Unless you are covering your pistol with something like a snug fitting t-shirt that show exactly what's underneath I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Which don Hume holster do you use for the pcr?

THAT ^^^ right there.  The sheep are on the phone/facebooging, even while walking around.

What you need to be sure of, when carrying concealed, is not to telegraph to others that you're carrying.

Don't pat it with your hand, don't bump it with your elbow, don't check position and then reposition while walking around in a store or parking lot.

Make sure it's where you want it before you get out of the car/truck.  If you think you need to check it/reposition in while in a store/restaurant - go to the men's room and enter a stall.

I'm right handed, when I sit in a restaurant we use a booth and I sit so my pistol is "inside" where people walking by or sitting across from us won't even see it or be able to pat it/reach for it.

It's one thing to work on using your carry side elbow/forearm to "feel" the grip/frame as you walk or casually move your arm, but don't stick your elbow up there and rub it around to get a good feel.  And make the elbow/forearm feel during a direction change, or when you've been standing still and start moving.  Not an every so often as you walk movement.  If you occasionally do something with your elbow/arm do it as you do something different in moving/walking/standing/sitting.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I have a 721 OT that I bought 9 years ago. I'm not sure they still produce one for the PCR specifically but there are many good pancake style holsters available for the PCR or P-01 and others made by outfits like Wright Leather Works, High Noon Holsters and so on.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice. I think I'm leaning towards a Neptune holster, I recently bought an Olight mini, and Neptune offers a provision to add that light or several others. Thanks again.

I run a Legacy Firearms Cronus IWB which is comfortable for me.  I switched out the grabby rubber base pads for Armory Craft aluminum pads.  The downside with those is that the corners are sharp and dig into me when I sit.  I know... :'(

I carry mine daily in Kydex at 4:00 either in an eBay holster ($28) or in a Dara holster.
