Anything to remedy p01 hammer bite?
« on: February 23, 2020, 01:39:36 PM »
I just installed an extended mag release and I really do love the gun but I have to wear gloves when I train with it the hammer hits me good.

Will a cgw hammer fix it? I love the decocker and trigger on it. Cant find anything similar and not too small.

From what i have seen this is rather uncommon. It may just be that shape of you hand and how you grip the pistol. I would try changing your grip and choking up on the grip less.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

That pretty much shows the issue, right there. You need all of your hand (webbing, too) underneath the beaver tail.

Yeah that's what I thought.  That's why I posted the pic, I cant really adjust my grip very much before I dont have a hold on it.  I have small hands already.

I will try some stuff out, doesnt happen on my shadow 2, shadow 1, or sp01.

Hmmm, keep trying different grips but if you're not gripping it they way you should then what good is it! I have a PO-1 with the CGW Pro kit and I can shoot it all day, I'm sure cuz of the different/better trigger. I shot a buddies PO-1 last year and it kinda hurt & took the fun out of it, plus I shot another guys and that hurt also and that was a couple of summers ago! Now I didn't grip that one any different than I grip mine and believe me they are NOT the same. Try moving your finger in or out a little on the trigger and see if that helps but in the meantime order a new trigger from CGW! It stinks ya gotta spend $$$ on such a great gun but it's just the way it is!

Is it possible they have larger beavertails, allowing your hand to sit fully under better?

That P-01 beaver tail is different than mine.
I will try to find a pic, but my steel framed P-01 is upswept, instead of straight back.

The problem is not with your grip, but with the way the beavertail is shaped on the aluminum frames. I have the same problem. I grip high on my SP-01 and grip the same way on the P-01. I refuse to change my grip to accommodate the pistol.

The CGW competition hammer is actually worse, with my blood on the end of the hammer after every shoot. The best hammer I've found is the CZC competition hammer which has more of a flattened back area. Good luck, been there and done that.

Doh ! My bad for sure,I'm thinking "trigger" and you clearly said "hammer". Sorry bout that.I have never had issues with hammer bite just trigger slap when shooting Non-CGW equipped guns.  :o

This is interesting, I had the same type of damage shooting a steel framed Compact, but I attributed it to the different shape and angle of the beaver tail.  But maybe I was getting hammer bite instead?  Regardless, I went with a PCR because of it, and have never had an issue.  The PCR and the P-01 should be nearly the same, and I grip all my pistols the same, at least as much as possible.  I wouldn't want to have to change grips just to accommodate one particular pistol, so if you can't make it work without bleeding, I'd say you need to think about getting something else.  Sorry I don't have anything helpful, good luck.

Agreed.  Im looking into other decocker compacts but cant find anything I can get in CA............

This also happens to me on glock 19 gen 3s but you can buy a beaver tail adapter that solved the problem for me

The beavertail of the p-01 isn't as pronounced as it is on say the sp01 or one of the steel frames compacts.

You can get an aftermarket hammer and have it bobbed (back cut off).

You will want to make sure it's reliable obviously.

It seems like you're gun is relatively stock. I would call Cajun and see what they say about bobbing the hammer and what other products they suggest you run with it. I would think perhaps the extended firing pin and a different hammer spring.

If you want me to modify a stock hammer for you to try I'm happy to. I have a few laying around. Just cover the shipping costs to you.

Check this out

I would leave some more meat up top so you can still grab it. But remove the O part so it doesn't squeeze your hand.
