P-10C failure to extract and factory repair
« on: March 22, 2020, 12:42:03 PM »
I bought my 2018 Czech made P-10C a month ago. In the course of shooting about 400 rounds of FMJ ammo, the pistol would only pull an empty case half way out, causing the live round to jam underneath it. The FTE's were very numerous. I sent it back to Kansas City and received it 2 weeks later. They polished the front of the extractor and adjusted it, and also polished the feed ramp. I shot 100 rounds through it, and it runs great. I'm very pleased with CZ's repair process.  I never would have thought that polishing the front of the extractor would help. Looking forward to running a lot more rounds through it!

Good to hear the problem has been fixed.  :)
Polishing the feed ramp is a great idea, even you do not have any failures (probably most of people don't agree, that's OK, but why don't polish it, when it doesn't hurt, but always helps).
I think adjusting extractor helped, have never seen polished one as a fix for failures - but I'm learning all the time  ;)
Shoot more and let us know if the fix is permanent !

Maybe there was enough drag on the front of the extractor causing it to not fully snap over the rim? Only thing I can come up with. If anyone else has a better idea, let me know. I'll post long term after I run some more rounds down range.

The extractor DOES NOT SNAP over the rim. The case slides up the breachface and the case rim comes in under the extractor claw. This is why you should never drop a round in the chamber and let the slide fly home forcing the extractor over it. You can damage/ruin your extractor by doing so. The likely remedy was that they adjusted the extractor which would include removing some metal from the frame side to add tension and polishing it up afterward.
Glad they got it handled for you.I've had nothing but good experiences with CZ Customer Service

Thanks for the info about the extractor. But nothing was done to the slide. The only shiny spots are the front of the extractor and the feed ramp. But it runs good now!

I’m guilty of dropping a round in the chamber and dropping the side on it. Never damaged an extractor before but I guess I can see how it could over time. It just never crossed my mind but it makes a little sense. Thanks for the info.

You're right. I didn't know this, and will avoid doing this in the future too.

That's a risky thing to do with most center-fire semi-autos.  About the only guns I know of that can do that are some Beretta models (like the M9, 92 and 96 and their variants) which were designed to allow closing the slide over a chambered round. (It has been a Beretta sales point for years.)

You can damage some extractors pretty easily by letting the slide close on a chambered round.
