P07 varying parts
« on: March 25, 2020, 01:48:52 PM »
Just a weird observation. My 2019 P07 has a plastic guide rod , a lanyard loop and came with the +2 rd magazine base plates along with the normal plates. My brother has the same gun and his came with a metal guide rod , a loaded chamber indicator , and no +2 base plates.
Why would it come with  metal guide in one and a plastic in the other ? Both were made in 2019.

There was another thread about this. CZ was changing parts installed and pistols manufactured the same year might have different configuration. Nothing bad with either one. However having metal guide rod is a good thing.  :D

Having a metal guide rod is meaningless. This was settled years ago. The P-01 received NATO designation with the plastic guide rod.

I understand the loaded chamber indicators being slowly introduced into the line  and the lanyard loops being deleted but for major parts like guide rods , it just seems like they would stop all the way with one or the other instead of putting one in here and one in there and throwing a LCI in here and a some +2 base pads there.  Either way I am happy with mine. I like a plastic guide rod and a metal one . They both tend to run the same. I think the plastic one tends to be more forgiving if hard trash or sand gets lodged in there as the plastic with bend around things where metal would tend to jam up around hard trash.

While having a metal guide rod may have no bearing on performance or longevity some of us like them and will continue to upgrade when possible. I upgraded my plastic CZ guide rods to stainless steel and the hollow metal guide rods in my Sigs got replaced with solid rods.

Not to be a nit picker, however upgrade is incorrect. Changed is more appropriate since no improvement in performance can be shown.

I'm just a dumb old geezer that likes shooting my CZs, and I really appreciate the variety of personalities and knowledge  I've  observed in this forum.  I'm just happy the spring is captive so I don't have to chase it across the room !

Many lightweight plastic and metal guide rods get replaced with tungsten to add weight to the front of the pistol which many feel can reduce muzzle flip and mitigate some felt recoil. Whether or not everyone experiences that result is another matter none the less it's an upgrade.
The hollow metal guide rods in Sigs are known to crack at their base so many people replace them with solid guide rods which last indefinitely. That's an upgrade.
Just because overall performance doesn't change doesn't mean changes are worthless or meaningless. Many parts such as grips are replaced for purely cosmetic reasons and while for everyone else it may mean nothing for the owner who likes the change it is an upgrade.

Replacing a hollow metal rod with tungsten has nothing to do with plastic guide rods. Using tungsten to add weight is personal preference not anything that adds reliability or longevity to the pistol.

Doesn't have to add to longevity or reliability. If the owner who chooses the upgrade feels it makes the pistol work better for them then that is what matters.

I'm "placebo effect" great example  ;D ;D

Every handgun I own has been cured with steel guide rod  ;)
I just don't like plastic parts in my firearms.
