Random silly question.
« on: April 07, 2020, 08:46:50 PM »
I have a P07 Duty and was cleaning it today and was just curious what the heck this piece is? Doesn't seem to connect to anything it just kinda sits there, I am just wondering if anyone has some input, thanks!

Are you asking about part marked in red?
magazine catch plug. It locks magazine release button.

The blue piece is more interesting  ;) ;D

The pin is for swapping the magazine release from one side to the other. A detent inside the mag release is depressed and the pin is pulled up to allow you to remove the magazine release and swap it over to the other side.

Here is a video on the subject.

You mean Attila and his buddies ?

Next time please, unload the gun before doing any work. That's very poor form.

Wobbly, the slide cannot be removed with the magazine in place, so it was out when he was field stripping it.  I've been guilty of putting a loaded magazine back in the frame just to see where the magazine and bullets were relative to the other parts, especially the clearance to the slide release nubbin.  ONLY if the chamber was confirmed clear AND the magazine removed before he removed the slide will I cut him some slack.  But, you made a good point, and if he is new to guns, a very good point.

I'll add to your advice.  I clear a carry gun in one area, then leave the magazines and live rounds in the bag in that area (usually an office), then take the cleared gun to the bench in the garage.  I don't have any live rounds near the bench.  Range guns are cleared at the range before putting them in the truck for the drive home, then checked again before going in to the safe.

CZIRRFB--I made some assembly/diassembly videos a few years ago using my P-09 as a model.  Your P-07 is very similar.  When you have time, take a look at these.

Yes, it's good to know how to detail strip all of your guns, to give them a thorough cleaning and inspection.  The schematic mats like TekMat are helpful.  In my case I went with another vendor, mainly because I wanted a lighter color than black, so I got one of these Cerus Gear mats in 'coyote':

Joe's videos are also very helpful for the first couple of times you fully disassemble and reassemble your P-07 or P-09.
