New member needing advice on 1st CZ
« on: April 11, 2020, 12:05:24 AM »
Hey guys.

I'm really interested in purchasing my first CZ pistol, but I need to give a little background first.  I am a competitive bullseye shooter, expert level haven't made master yet.  All my target pistols are purpose built 1911s.  I have VERY high accuracy and reliability expectations.  CZ has a great reputation for both accuracy and reliability for a production pistol.  I've settled on one of 3 guns; the TSO, Czechmate or AccuShadow 2.  I will not be using the gun for any formal competition it will merely be a range pistol used purely for fun.  I like the weight of the TSO and AccuShadow, but really love the SA trigger of the TSO and Czechmate.  It sounds like the Czechmate will be the most accurate out of the box.  But would the TSO equal the Czechmate accuracy with a 10X or Accu bushing?  What do you guys think?  I appreciate the advice.

I have a TSO and a Czechmate. I love them both but I shoot the Czechmate more than the TSO. Both have the same trigger pull at 1# 3.2 oz out of the box. Both are very accurate. I installed a second comp on the extra barrel since I’ll be focusing in open division of USPSA this year.

The TSO is more front heavy compared to the Czechmate due to the full length dust cover. The frame of the Czechmate is 1/4” shorter to allow the comp to slide back without hitting the frame. However, if you use the compensated barrel it’ll be more front heavy than the TSO since the comp alone weighs 4.0 oz. This is the reason why I bought and installed an aluminum comp that weighs 1.4 oz.

Since you plan on just using this as a range toy and not plan to compete with it, I would highly recommend the Czechmate. You will essentially be getting two guns for the price of one. One barrel setup with a front iron sight and another barrel with a compensator setup for open. It also comes with a 6Moa cmore slideride and a nice adjustable thumb rest.

Even my petite 5’ 1” tall wife likes shooting the Czechmate more than the TSO now as long as I put minor rounds in the mag. However, she was able to handle 166 PF rounds but complained that her tiny hands were getting battered lol.

Czechmate for the win.

Good advice, thank you.
Do you think the TSO could equal the Czechmate accuracy by adding the CGW or CZC bushings?

Just a word of warning-CZ’s are addictive.  They’re like potato chips, nobody has “just one”😏

You didn't say in the original post, but is 9x19 your plan? The TSO gives you options for 9x19 or .40 (and a .40 TSO can run a 9mm barrel).

Good point, I'm only considering 9mm

It might. I say this because some CZ pistols come with really nice fitting barrel bushing while some do not.

My TSO doesn’t have one because the bushing is tightly fitted and there’s no excessive play between the barrel and slide. However, that wasn’t the case on my shadow so I ordered and installed a CGW bushing. Accuracy greatly improved compared to the stock bushing. There was about .02” more play between the slide and barrel with the stock bushing compared to CGW’s bushing.

Here’s my TSO and Czechmate:

With the Czechmate (with comped barrel), you can load it up to make it as powerful(power factor wise) as a .40 S&W round.

You might call CZ Custom and ask them.  They probably have more knowledge than most on all three pistols.
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

So this happened...

I found an unfired TSO, 6 20-round mags, optic mount and slide racker.

I did a quick field strip to check it out and lube it.  The bushing is definitely getting changed, it's .007" larger ID than the barrel OD.  Trigger has a little creep so I put some grease on the sear/hammer contact, seems a little smoother.

Very Nice!

A 10X bushing is an inexpensive fix.
I have one on my 75 Shadow and it is very nice.

On your comment on the factory trigger, consider going to the flat blade trigger as it adds pretravel adjustment.
I think the TS trigger only has overtravel, unless that has changed.
That combined with a reduced power trigger return spring does wonders.
