Interesting use of Talon grip material on a P-09 slide...
« on: April 15, 2020, 10:46:59 PM »
I don't post on Reddit or have an active reddit account, but I sometimes lurk the /r/CZFirearms subreddit to see what people are posting about their CZ's.

Recently I saw a guy post photos of his P-09, where he had cut out little strips of Talon rubber grip material and inserted it into the slide serrations.  It looks alright I guess, but it got me wondering about the functionality of it.  Neither him nor any of the commenters explained it.  Has anyone who posts here seen or done something like this?

I get decent traction with the serrations to rack my slide without any rubber grip material.  Also, I like to be able to treat my slide with solvents without worrying about some adhesive strips getting compromised.  I have Talon grips on my pistols, but I also avoid getting any lubricants on them, and only occasionally wipe them down with a conservative amount of isopropyl alcohol if they need it.  I like to be able to occasionally degrease my slide with acetone and treat it with Eezox, which I'm pretty sure the Talon grip material would not survive.

People do all kinds of potentially odd stuff to their firearms. Highlighting to roll marks with wax is a good example. If it makes them happy more power to them. I put Larue index clips in the tac rail slots of my P-09. I even stippled a few black ones. Makes it look like a pistol beard.  ;D

I saw the post that you are talking about on Reddit. Strange indeed and i likely would not do it but again if it makes them happy and dose not cause a safety or function concern, more power to them.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Yes, that looks like a custom-made variant of the same thing, with the addition of some traction tape across the top of the slide.  I guess there must be a demand for it, since they are selling them for many types of guns.  On their site, they have an instructional video on how to clean your slide without harsh chemicals, so that it won't peel off prematurely.

I've considered buying one for my S&W Shield.  That little bugger is stiff to rack.  It's loosening up some but is much harder to rack than any of my CZs.  A little extra traction would help.

Like you said some slides are hard to rack and need a little extra gripping that's fine.👍
Some people feel their pistol is something to just decorate 🎨 , so it looks cool at the range.
Kind of like the young kids cars ,they take off a perfectly good Muffler and put on a muffler that makes it sound like you don't have a muffler.
Or put a wing on the back of a front wheel drive car with a pink tow hook under the back bumper, and also paint their wheels fluorescent green.
Oh , don't forget the 47 bumper stickers across the back of the car.
In other words it's whatever floats your boat.

Oh yeah, I remember back in the day, everyone had to have dual exhausts on their trucks.  I always thought they sounded like crap, and they'd rust out in about two years.
Some people just have money burning a hole in their pockets.

I don't worry about the "cool Factor" anymore, doesn't mean anything to me. I just don't have a need to impress anybody anymore, been there, done that .. when I was young and foolish, I wasted a lot of money to buy things I didn't need, to try to impress people I didn't even know.🤪

I would say we've probably all done that. At 60 , it's all about Comfort now.

Absolutely agree with that.  I'm 55 now and will take function over form any day.
