My New P-01 Custom SDP
« on: April 28, 2020, 06:42:51 PM »
Now I'm up to five CZs.  Shadow 2, 75B, P-07 x 2, and now the P-01.

I didn't consider carrying a CZ till I got the first P-07.  Then I bought a used one with threaded barrel and milled with an RMR.  The P-07s aren't fancy, but are extremely function.  I kept seeing the P-07 vs P-01 threads, and figured I would pick up one in Omega, if I ever found one.

My gun range opened up Saturday, and the owner showed me the P-01 from the Custom shop.  It was definitely impressive, but so was the price.  However; I did research it that night.  It was very hard to find info on it, and took me two days.

It starts life as a basic P-01 Decocker.  Then the Custom Shop works their magic.

Starting with the lightweight P-01, Angus’s crew at the CZ Custom Shop installs a competition hammer modified to work with the decocker, polishes and smooths the firing pin block and tunes the trigger to 3.5-4 lbs. in SA and 8.5-9 lbs. in DA. Riding atop the slide are tritium sights with a Heinie Slant Pro in rear for low drag. Custom interior parts like a solid firing pin stop and trigger pin, extended firing pin and a stainless steel guide rod complete the package.

It includes a "before" and "after" test target.  The one I saw on line went from 3 1/2" to 1 1/2".  One guy referred to it as a "Baby Shadow2".  That caught my attention.  I would never carry my Shadow 2, but a "Baby" version...

I started thinking, I almost bought a Sig P229 Legion, this gun was much more than a Legion.  So, I bought it.

The trigger really does feel like "magic", the test target says  DA 9 lb, SA 3 lb  4 oz.  But my Lyman says DA 6 lb 15 oz, SA 2 lb 2 oz, the trigger feels more like my Lyman.  It really is comparable to my Shadow 2.  I haven't shot it yet.  I broke it down and cleaned/lubed.  Good thing, it was almost dry.  The test target was 1 1/2" at 25 meters, and looked like two groups with all shots touching.  No way for me to check it out, I'm just not that good. :)

"Insert Image" just inserts the [IMG] brackets, I don't see any way to directly upload an image.  And I don't do "Photo Hosting" sites anymore.

My Price" $ 1,349.99  I told you it wasn't cheap, but a Legion is almost as much.

My Tapatalk smartphone app lets me attach pics to posts straight from my phone.

Would love to see a Baby Shadow.  P-01 is my next purchase, had one and let it go.  Debating whether to just buy a new stock gun and gradually improve it, or wait around for a used Cajunized one to pop back up for sale.

Picked up a used sdp myself and love it, carrying it right now as a matter of fact.  Shoots like a dream and im kicking myself for not trying the P01 sooner.  Longtime glock and 1911 carrier and now adapting to the da/sa trigger pull transition.  Im definitely glad i saved up for the sdp as it is just about perfect as is.  Cheers.

Love my custom 1911, but the CZ SDP is my favorite for carry. The transition to the DA trigger was interesting. The action work on the SDP really helped. But the game changer was sending the SDP back to CZ Custom shop for the trigger short reset mod. The trigger reset is now simliar to a 1911.

The short reset mod sounds interesting - might be in my future.  Really liking this pistol so far, nothing else has gone with me to the range since I picked it up.  its that good.
