P01 Omega mag
« on: May 03, 2020, 01:44:04 PM »
Just got a new P01 omega and it came with two 15 round mags. Every spec that I have read says 14 round mag. Is this some thing new? Not complaining mind you.

I think the 14 round magazines have been discontinued. Mec-gar has went to 15 rounders also.

Like gtcooper said.
You can buy new P-01 with either 14rds or 15rds mags.
You have been just lucky to have one with 15.  ;)

Just checked the case it says 15. I’m liking it.

My P-01 Custom came with two 14 round magazines, and the rubber base plates everybody is talking about.

Looking for spares, I found these and the Mec-Gar 15 round, plastic base plate and about $10 less.  If you didn't know, it would be impossible to tell which mags were the originals.  The Mec-Gars fit like they were made for the gun, maybe they were.  ;D

Mec-Gar also makes the CZ factory mags

Not unusual. Mecgar makes CZ mags but they use a slightly different follower in their brand.  In the bigger mags a CZ with plus 2 base holds 18 rounds and the same Mecgar mag with plus 2 base holds 19.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

My new PCR also came with two 15 round magazines.  It has a black trigger, too (not the stainless serrated one).

One more thing that I noticed. I have a Rami with One 10 round and a 14 round mag. With the adapter off the 14 round mag will not latch in to the P01 omega. I know that they are different mags but I thought they were interchangeable.

I bought a couple of the Mec-Gar 15 round magazines (CZCOMP15AFC).  They fit fine, with some interesting differences compared to the factory CZ magazine that came with a P-01 Omega.  The following is mostly for other CZ newbies like me who are looking for extra mags:

The magazine body is about 3/16 inch (~4mm longer), The plastic base plate wraps around the end of the magazine to fill most of the gap between the end of the mag and the grip.  The oem mag is a closer fit, if it matters.  With either one, about half of my pinkie (I wear size L gloves) rests against the base plate.

The follower is different (and blue), and the spring is shorter, and made out of a thicker wire.

The base plates and locks are different on the two magazines, but they both look ok.  I assume the soft rubber base plate was designed to go with the rubber grips, and it is a better  (closer) fit overall.

The Mec-Gar magazine is labeled "Anti-Friction Coated" on the package.  Not sure what that means.  I wiped it inside and out with some light oil, because it seemed pretty dry and it won't hurt to err on the safe side.

I'd rather have the oem magazines if the price was closer, but the Mec-Gar mags were $22.75ea plus shipping online at CenterFire Guns (and I'm cheap).

I do like the Mec-Gar magazine design better in one important aspect.  The follower is designed to better protect the spring from being overcompressed against the base plate.  In the long run that may be a more important feature than how it looks (for people like me who often can't count to 15, anyway).

This is good information for me.  I was about to order one of the Mec-Gars from Greg Cote and get steel base plates for all my P-01 magazines.  The longer magazine might make me rethink that, not sure yet.  Thanks for posting this.

@Knight 3124: I can post some pictures, although I suspect someone may have done that somewhere here. I'm pretty much in learning mode with this gun myself... Where do you get the steel base plates?

I bought mine at Greg Cote (black metal plate)
But...
I still prefer rubber base pad for a better grip.

I haven't ordered the base plates yet, but I will get them from Greg Cote.  They are inexpensive, less than $4 each.
