yes, sir.

Great shooting. Do you wait for the barrel to cool between shots or does it group that well when fired 3-5 times in a few minutes time?

Hoping someday to get to where my Sauer will group that well (mostly shooter needs work, but it is a light profile hunting barrel).

I have a pretty heavy barrel (over 1" diameter at the muzzle). I wait 60 seconds between first 10 shots, then I wait another 5 minutes. Even with a heavy barrel I am able to shoot not more than 3 groups in the 0,5-0,8 moa range during one session.

That gives me a good place to start with my Sauer. I'm thinking 3 shot group, 2-3 minutes between shots. Then wait at least 5 minutes. Only have about 20-30 rounds through it, so the first step is still figuring out what the rifle wants to eat.

Which Sauer do you have? Which caliber?

Sauer 100 Classic XT in 6.5 Creedmore. I think it is their entry-level rifle. I won it at a Friends of the NRA banquet last year.

It is a nice handling, light weight sporter. Unlike your Howa, the barrel is only 17mm diameter at the muzzle.

I would change the stock if I were you. 17 mm diameter is not bad, I would put a silencer or muzzle brake on it. Show us then your groups.

I really like the feel of the wood stock that is on it. Barrel is not threaded, but a brake might be good.

Today I have 2 groups for you. Of course 100 m. They show pretty well, why winning competitions even at 100m is so hard if you are shooting factory ammo. The competition rules are: 10 shots within 10 minutes, you can use a front rest or bipod, but no rear bag. After 5 shots you barrel is already hot and your group is opening up. In order to be in the top 3 you have to produce a solid 0,5 MOA 10-shot group.
Your 5-shot group can look promising, but the 6th to 10th shot make the difference.

That is great shooting with factory ammo. I have a Remington 700 6.5 creedmoor. With factory stock and ammo I shoot 3/4 inch at 100 yards. I've been using hornady 123gr sst load. I put it in a chassis system but haven't shot it yet. Going to start reloading for it also. I'll try to get as good of groups as yours.  Keep up the good shooting!

Testing new ammo, Federal 140 gr.
25x50 Vortex, 100m, bench, bipod, no rear bag.

Europe,

Is the variation in the group after 5 shots because of the ammo variation or because of the temperature change in the barrel?
If it is the ammo, are the fellows shooting .5 moa using hand loads that are just a little more consistent and matched to their rifles?

Without a rear bag, I'd have trouble shooting under 1.5 moa at 100 meters with a perfect rifle and perfect ammo, I think.  Getting a steady hold would be much more significant than the barrel heat, for example.

Yes, people in the top five of the list are shooting handloads. Moreover, they use stronger scopes. I think that you should use at least 30x magnification, to shoot a 10-shot group under 0,5 moa.
