Dawson tritium sight fitment problem P01
« on: May 30, 2020, 08:25:04 AM »
Hi CZ guys.

I apologize for coming straight here instead of the introduction section but I am a bit pressed for help.

I recently bought a set of Dawson sights and proceeded to fit them but ran in to a problem with the front sight. The rear sight fits no problem but the front sight hit the top of the slide as seen in the pictures.
I tapped it in but it got stuck just before the front sight pin would align. I tapped it out and saw that it hit the top of the slide.
The gun is a dead standard P01 as it came from its mother.
Dawson said the SP-01 and P01 do not have the same depth dovetail but that is where they left me and the local supplier is sticking to "the height is right".

I need to find out if this is the correct sight but there is no product code info on the Dawson site and I asked Dawson for more info but they stopped replying after I replied that it was not bought directly from them.

The picture I drew at the bottom is what I think the problem is.

Hello,
According to my information, The CZ P01 has a dovetail cut 0.100 deep. The SP-01 has a dovetail cut 0.060 deep. That might explain the metal shaving at the front of the sight. Did you order the sight from Dawson Precision?
We want to help and don't want to confuse you with anyone else, so please include original message text with all replies.

What the heck is the weird thing jutting out above the base of the sight, right above the serrated part in the picture. If that is metal it seams like it might stop the sight from going in. I have not seen that before. Might just be me. Did you send that picture to Dawson?

Lets see what some of the forum members who are better with sights have to say.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Sadly that is the damage caused when the sight was tapped in. The overhang does not clear the top of the slide and ended up getting that nasty serration from hitting the grooves on the slide.

The Dawson website clearly gives the specs for the front sight dovetails. Clearly the sight you have was not for the P-01 and whoever was attempting to install the sights should have stopped pounding when the sight stopped moving. It doesn't matter that the sights appear the same height what matters is the dovetail base is machined differently. The good news is it appears the real damage was only done to the sight. You'll need to purchase the proper sight and move on.

Based on the packaging in your first post it appears the rear sight is correct and you need the .150 front sight to mate up with that rear. If you go to the link you posted above and select the .150 in the drop down menu I think that's the front sight you need but you will have to call Dawson to place the order.

i emailed Dawson two weeks back in regards to front night sights for a P01.  They informed me that they are currently back ordered and have been taken off their site for the time being.

They did mention to me that you can call in and request to be placed on the backorder list.

Guys, thank you very much for the assistance, especially SVPP. I got an email from Dawson yesterday and I got the SKU. For the specific height rear sight on the P01 it is 019-277 in the front- it is the tritium model. This probably won't be needed by any of you ous but non the less there it is.
I hope you guys have a great day.   ;)
