Canik C-100 ammo preferences
« on: June 06, 2020, 10:25:07 AM »
Got a C-100 due to arrive on Tuesday and I plan to take it to the range on Wednesday. Do these pistols prefer 124 grain ammo during break-in? Or will they run anything?

I’ve got plenty of 115 grain ammo for range days and a limited supply of 124 that I save for competition. But, if I need to run a box or two of 124 during break-in, that’s ok.

It should run whatever you got. Just clean off any grease and oil it good.

Machines and guns coming halfway around the world can sometimes arrive with a coating of something that's applied more as salt water protection. I'm not a Canik guy, so I can't say. I know that CZs can come with some extra thick oil. The point is... if it's there, then it's a preservative and not a lubricant. As such, it sould be removed by whatever steps you call "gun cleaning".

Although mine does run everything I personally feel the 124 is more accurate but have not done any real testing. Since my reloads now are all 124 I won't be doing any actual testing. With inflation - my 4 cents worth.

When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

+1 to the C-100's running any good quality ammunition.  That break-in period thing is a crock of poop put out by manufacturers that fail to properly design or manufacture a gun.  If they suspect that a gun needs to be shot X number of times before it's reliable, then they should do it.  OK, I'm done with that rant.  Sorry.  My experience is that 115gr ammo isn't any less reliable than 124gr ammo, all else being equal.  The key phrase is all else being equal.  Some of the less expensive and/or lower quality less powerful ammo uses the lighter bullets to save manufacturing costs.  I have a lot of Fiocchi 115gr FMJ that's so hot I won't run it in a pistol.  It gets used in my sub guns only.

Ran 100 rounds of Herter's 115 grain target ammo through my new C-100 today without issue. Also ran 20 rounds of Remington UMC 115 grain JHP though it as well.

The only issue was that I was shooting steel. One of the Remington hollow points lost it's jacket on the steel and ricocheted straight back and landed in the middle of my chest. It stuck to my sweaty t-shirt and I thought it might have pierced the skin. So, I quickly tried to remove it and it was still really hot. Ouch.

Ricochets off steel are a bigger issue than you'd think. Most people stand WAY TOO close. On my home range (which has all steel targets), I've been hit by bullets, even standing back 35-40 feet. I routinely hear the bullets landing on the steel roof of my "man cave", and that's more than 60 feet away and behind the targets. Jackets are spread all over my driveway, up to 75 feet away.

As I pulled it off, I turned to show the range officer. He said it happens a lot. Said their worse case was a guy who caught the jacket on his cheek and it lodged in, burning him. And he couldn't remove it because it had pierced the skin. They finally got it off of his face.

Gives new means to the term face offO0

A slow moving 158gr hit me square in the bicep one day while I was shooting with my son. It was a RMR plated bullet and luckily had not developed any ragged edges in its short flight.
