CZ P07 FAILURE TO RETURN TO BATTERY

Hello All,

This issue I am posting about is related to the slide on my pistol not returning to battery.  The spent casing is ejected and a new round chambered however the slide in not positioning all the way forward and therefore will not fire (It’s not far off just a few mm or so).  I am able to push the slide forward a bit with my thumb and fire another round however the slide stops short again.  The issue has only occurred while using Federal 124gr HST Standard Pressure.  I have had 0 issues with American Eagle 147gr TMJ/American Eagle 124gr FMJ.  I also ran 50 rounds of Federal 147gr HST Standard Pressure with no failures although the slide was a bit hesitant after round 49.  Pistol is brand new, always cleaned/lubricated with less than 300 rounds fired.  Any insights on what could be causing this issue would be much appreciated.

It doesn't like that ammo. Choose a different Defensive ammo and see how it feeds.

Do the "plunk test" with Federal 124gr HST Standard Pressure. That is what most of wise people at this Forum recommends    Hopefully I'll be one of them soon...

Appreciate the replies, does anyone have a specific recommendation as far as a reliable cartridge for the P07?  Assuming I test the Federal 147gr HST more and have zero failures would that be a good option?

My P-09 & 07 runs that ammo without any problems. But that is just mine. You may look for a bullet that has a narrower end profile. The HST are probably contacting the lands early and preventing it from going into battery. Look for a different profile of hollow point meaning a little bit narrower or make sure that the overall length of the cartridge is 1.10 in length. Most CZs do not like a wider nose because of this. The other rounds that you mentioned that ran flawlessly have a narrower profile and don't contact the lands.

I don't think I ever tried 124gr HST in either of my P-07's but 147gr HST standard pressure runs flawlessly in both of them.

The only ammo I had feeding issues with in those pistols was the 65gr Polycase Inceptor defense, which were hanging when stripping the first round out of a full magazine, not having an issue going into battery.  Something to do with the shape and texture of those fluted polymer/copper bullets and the pressure of a full mag against the underside of the slide.  Their unfluted range ammo runs fine in them.

You should plunk test some of those rounds in your barrel, see if they spin freely or hang on the lands.

That is a bit lighter bullet I think, if I remember it is 135g.
It is a good performing and reliable ammo though.
I recommend it as well. But ammo is a very personal thing.

I sometimes had a failure to go into battery with my P-07, especially upon inserting a new magazine and hitting the slide lock/release to chamber the round.  I later found that I wasn't really seating the first round far back enough into the magazine.  Since I've made it a habit to push on the nose of the first round back into each magazine, it hasn't been an issue.  Maybe that could help?

It helps.. not only first round. I've got a habit to tap the mag once is loaded. All 15 rounds are nice and even sitting there. Never had any issue with branded ammo.

I do the same thing when loading my carry mags, tapping the back of the magazine against my hand or knee every few rounds, to make sure every round is seated all the way back.  I mainly do it to cut down on magazine rattle.  You can hear when they are firmly in place after you tap it a few times.

I never bother with it when reloading at the range, and only had a feeding problem with the specific ammo I mentioned earlier, which was repeatable on two different trips, with different mags, and different batches of the same ammo.

This is not likely the problem but I was having a similar problem with my P-09 a few years back when it was new.  It was happening with 115 gr FMJ loads.  After checking everything I could think of, I found small burrs on the my mag followers, where the front of the brass was kicking up just a little bit of material.  I trimmed them off with a razor knife and the problem went away.

I've never heard of anyone else experiencing this, but it would be worth a look.

Does it do this with both (or all) magazines?

On any gun experiencing this issue the first thing I would do is replace the recoil spring
