put said bayo on that rifle. Tried but couldn't not remove said bayo. Pulled and pulled and finally tapped on it with an old wood block hammer. Finally it came off....with the front barrel band/nose cap. Held up the bayo (with cap still attached) and notice this little button on the bayo and pushed the button whereas the nose cap fell freely to the floor.

Years ago my buddy borrowed his dads AR with a CA magazine lock on it with an empty mag inserted. Neither of us knew how to operate the rifle, and never managed to get the mag out so we didnt shoot it that day.

Looking back on it, i was trying to manipulate the bolt catch/release to drop the mag.

Roooookie of the year.

Recently repaired a friends AK that he took to a gunsmith to install a side rail.

The ak rail was upside down, to far to the rear and not even parallel. The gunsmith used 3 different types of machine screws, 3 different thread pitches with 3 different heads, that he tried to use silver solder to keep the screws tight....but the screws were barely finger tight and i could spin them with 0 effort.

Wow, that’s unbelievable. I would be embarrassed to give that back to the owner after a hack job like that.

I had a buddy who took his AR to a gunsmith to have them attempt to remove a pinned flashhider, they first tried to grind it off, it didn’t work.   So they then attempted to cut it off...directly under the flashhider on the barrel itself!  I have photos but can’t figure out how to post them.

If I had a mill, I'm absolutely positive I would do exactly the same thing!

I’m mostly guilty of “idiot marks”, from poor technique and not taking proper precautions (changing sights). I almost lost one of the detentes switching over to the extended safety in my shadow 2, but luckily I got it before it was lost. I am still waiting for my heart to return to normal after that one (I know it is super simple, but I am completely new to even minor hobby gunsmithing).

I went to shop to buy 6.5 Swede ammo. The gunsmith waited on me and tried to sell me 6.5 Carcano. His explanation was that he didn't bother himself with all those foreign arms, but if it was a Winchester or Remington, he was the man to see. I had my doubts.
I've found that growing up in the sixties was a lot more fun than being in my sixties.

If he is so unconcerned about the differences between 6.5 Swede and 6.5 Carcano, then I'd be looking for a different gunsmith.

I'm surprised he didn't try to sell you 6.5 Creedmore or 6.5 Grendel.

Gen 5 Glock 19 extended slide stop/ take down lever install. I had put one on my Gen 4 with zero problems because it had a captured spring. Took about 30 seconds. The Gen 5 has an un-captured spring .  I watched 2 videos and of course it looked so easy. Just don't let the spring go flying out ,tilt the lever up, and push in with one finger while pushing spring down with another finger while holding frame with rest of fingers and sticking your tongue out a little to help balance the whole ordeal. After several attempts--zing goes the spring. I heard it land to my left. Call out to my wife to help with the search for the little #!**^%$#. After about 10 minutes of searching I stepped on it with my bare foot.  Wife leaves. Will call this attempt 2----zing to my right-------- Honey I need your help.  Ten more minutes, got it------wife stays. Attempt 3 (may have been one other escape attempt I can't remember) # 3---------zing to my right. My wife says I think it went in the floor vent. I'm thinking of course it did. I get  a flashlight and lift off vent cover. There it is------------- right in a crevice(of course it is). I had to get a magnetized screw driver to get it out.   We get a pillow case and put the frame inside to keep that little #**^%$# from flying to freedom again. My wife gives it try with her smaller hands . No luck. She leaves. I try several more times and finally stick everything inside the pillow case and do it by feel.     YES,VICTORY .   Looking back yes it was funny!!!!!!!!!!

I lost a take-down lever spring for a S&W M&P about 15 years ago - didn't even know I lost it until I tried to reassemble the pistol after installing an Apex trigger.  The little wire spring is still in the garage somewhere.

More recently, I lost a Lifter-Spring for a CZ-75BD in the same garage...  that is unlikely to ever be found.   And only a week after that I launched a plunger spring and both ends of the plunger set for my DW Valor (which I found a week after I ordered a new plunger spring set from Wilson Combat, total cost around $17 incl shipping.  Ouch).

Small springs are my downfall.

If I ever win the lottery, I will have the floor of the garage re-finished and graded so it all leads downhill to an accessible sump in the middle, and then have the floor painted in white epoxy paint - so I'll know where to look for the springs.

My worst was maring up the channel liner on a glock slide. Couldnt even get the right tool to work to take it back out. Basically had to pick at it with a dental pick until I got enough grip.

I always kink the spring for the Saftey detent on my ARs adding grips.
