How well does the AR mag adapter work? Is it good to go?
The HBI mag adaptor, when installed, works pretty bleeped well. I had no problem dumping C-Products mags with it.
The problem is that it is so bleeped difficult to install without two or more sets of hands. The procedure to remove the tiny little washer from the mag release assembly on the 7.62 gun and put it all back together again is such a huge pain in the ass. Best to skip removal of this seemingly insignificant washer and arduous reassembly if you can. Otherwise, the actual HBI adapter, when inserted into the mag well, snaps in easily, stays and functions perfectly.
If I had it to do over again, I would just insert the adaptor and see it the AR mags will seat in the mag well and function under fire. If it does, skip the washer removal and leave the mag release assembly alone.
If you really have to remove that little washer, do so in a small bare room or closet, otherwise, invariably all the parts of the assembly will go flying off into orbit at some point, never to be seen again. The disk thing that HBI supplies to assemble is basically useless. I finally had to cut a coil off the spring to squeeze it all back together, but it's still not quite right.
I did figure out a better, seemingly fool-proof way to remove and re-install the mag release assembly without the parts flying off, but it too, is fairly labor intensive and you need a vice.
PITA!!!
