Well that's just great - right after I spent a couple hundred bucks on a HBI mag adaptor and a bunch of C-Products AR mags...

I called CZ USA last week, who told me they had no idea when they were going to get anymore 7.62x39 magazines.

ALL of the vendors listed are out of stock at this time, mostly local mom & pop stores with a smattering of nationally recognized vendors.

I ordered some from Tin Star several days ago because they are a LGS and close geographically, but have not heard anything back from them.

ETA: Finally received the mags from Tin Star, two weeks later. They seem to be a surly, indolent lot. It pays to check reviews of unknown vendors before ordering. These folks had a pretty lousy rating, but at least I finally got my mags.

If CZ were smart, they'd really get their game up and bring their mags (as well as every other part) into the USA ASAP before the election during this panic-demic.

After several mag dumps, I can attest that the C-Products 30-rd AR15 mags in 7.62x39 (with an HBI adapter) work very well as an alternative to the OEM Bren 2 mags in that caliber. So if CZ doesn't get on the stick soon, C-Products and some of the other x39 AR mags may end up eating their lunch in this regard.

This is always the risk when you create a rifle that takes its own proprietary mag.

CZ has a ton of production line items.  They have to relegate resources and production lines to produce each of these products.  Diverting funds to produce magazines is an expensive proposition.  I would hazard a guess that they dont have enough production capacity to satisfy demand and they probably will NOT ramp up to produce more.  I could be completely wrong though.  I would imagine that the sale of 5.56 guns out stripes the 7.62X39 and most of what they're producing for the .30 cal guns is probably going towards their military contracts.

Thankfully, HBI has provided an alternative at retail for us folks.  Its doubly cool that the gun can even do this.

How well does the AR mag adapter work? Is it good to go?

The HBI mag adaptor, when installed, works pretty bleeped well. I had no problem dumping C-Products mags with it.

The problem is that it is so bleeped difficult to install without two or more sets of hands. The procedure to remove the tiny little washer from the mag release assembly on the 7.62 gun and put it all back together again is such a huge pain in the ass. Best to skip removal of this seemingly insignificant washer and arduous reassembly if you can. Otherwise, the actual HBI adapter, when inserted into the mag well, snaps in easily, stays and functions perfectly.

If I had it to do over again, I would just insert the adaptor and see it the AR mags will seat in the mag well and function under fire. If it does, skip the washer removal and leave the mag release assembly alone.

If you really have to remove that little washer, do so in a small bare room or closet, otherwise, invariably all the parts of the assembly will go flying off into orbit at some point, never to be seen again. The disk thing that HBI supplies to assemble is basically useless. I finally had to cut a coil off the spring to squeeze it all back together, but it's still not quite right.

I did figure out a better, seemingly fool-proof way to remove and re-install the mag release assembly without the parts flying off, but it too, is fairly labor intensive and you need a vice.

PITA!!!

I just picked up my new 11" 7.62x39 Bren 2Ms yesterday along with the magazine adapter.  I wasn't going to get this gun due to the proprietary magazines, but once I found out there's an adapter to convert it to take 7.62x39 AR15 magazines, I jumped right in.

I tried just installing the adapter without removing the washer.  D&H magazines lock in fine with the washer still in place, but ASC and RZE Unimags would not.  Therefore, I removed the washer.  I wouldn't say the process was easy, but I didn't have too much difficulty.  A third hand would have been nice.  With the washer out, all 7.62x39 AR15 magazines lock in just fine.

Here it is with a D&H magazine.

And here it is with an RZE Unimag (holds 25rds 7.62x39)

I'm going to test fire it this weekend.  My ultimate plan is to get the buttstock from CZ and SBR this pistol.

So the RZE and ASC mags just wouldn’t lock in or what?

I would be curious to see how the C Products mags work without having to remove the little washer in the mag release assembly, since their Duramag seems to have the best reputation of all the 7.62x39 AR mags -- mine have been great so far, totally reliable with excellent fit and finish, as have been the factory CZ mags.
