Scorpion mag sticking
« on: July 16, 2020, 07:29:22 PM »
I have read the previous posts relating to the sticking mag issue with the Scorpion.
Soooo disappointing, there does not seem to be a fix. Bolt closed, mags eject with lighting speed.
Bolt back, as in last bullet fired, I need to physically pull the mag out, and I can feel how tight the mag is in the magwell.
I spoke to Aaron at CZ USA today:  "it is not a defect, it does not need a fix because it is designed not to release when
you press the mag release. It is designed to be pulled out to reload."  And that is exactly quoted. After a 4 minute discussion on how that cannot be true (from me) I hung up. I asked him if I he thinks I wasted $900 for this (with extra mags) because it is useless in IDPA and USPSA.
He declined to comment. What a joke!!!! I have $4000 worth of awesome CZ pistols for competition.
Thanks for letting me vent, and if anyone has a fix I am all ears.  CZ customer service sucks!!!!!
Thank you
Mike

I understand your frustration!  I did read somewhere that Europeans generally do not eject their mags onto the ground.  They pull out the empty, store it (in a dump bag I presume) and then insert the new mag.  Might explain CZ's take on this.  Who knows?

MP5s are the same. They're European sub-guns, with a different manual of arms than ARs.

With a little training, it's not a big deal. V-grip the reload mag, press the paddle release, pull the spent mag out, rotate the new mag in your hand into the magwell.

I got my CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S2 today. When I ordered it I also bought 4 35 round magpul mags, new grip, and right side safety.

Mine must be broke. I just tried both the 20 round factory mags, and the 4 Magpuls. They all dropped free with the bolt closed or open. The mags were unloaded thou. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Yup - some mags will drop free. The PSA mags, for example, usually do not, but there is a ton of info on here about how to remedy that with a little sanding.

Thanks, guys, for the feedback. I did try sanding the round edge as per youtube video, no luck. I think I will try sanding
the upper rear corner where I believe the bolt is pressing. I'll keep working with 1 mag until I figure it out.
BTW, 10 round mags in NJ make it tougher to grab and pull the mag out, as opposed to 20 or 30 rounders in the free states.

FWIW, my CZ and Magpul mags drop free in the Scorpion, but like I said above, my PSA mags don't.

I think the bottom line is that the Scorpion Evo isn't intended to be a drop-free design (which is why the CS rep was saying that), but with some mags (and maybe some modification) it can be.

I'd be looking into a way to put a mag block in a 30 or 35 round mag to only hold 10 rounds. Probably a lot of ways to do it. If you knew someone with a 3D printer I bet they could come up with something cool.

Does a 10 round mag even come past the trigger guard?

There must be a high level of tolerance on the fitment of parts on a Scorpion. My 1st gen pistol ejects every mag I put in, except the last batch of three PSA mags that I got (one banana, one clear, one smoke). If I push the mag release with the bolt closed or open. It not only drops free it comes out a speed.

My Micro has a slightly tighter magwell than my standard Scorpion braced pistol with the carbine forend. When I fit the PSA mags I sand them to fit the Micro and they are slightly looser in my other Scorpion. The fitted PSA mags work perfectly however in both platforms. Just took a 2 day PCC class this past weekend using the standard braced pistol and with over 1100 rds fired, NEVER had a single failure other than those purposely induced by my partner while performing malfunction clearance drills. My friend took the class also, (it's the second time both of us have taken this class) and his standard braced pistol Scorpion readily accepts all unfitted PSA mags without issue.  So yes, there does appear to be a fairly generous variance in the Scorpion's specs.

Do a search on the mag thread.  There is one here which shows where to sand the early PSA mags.

Mine drops OE mags just fine. The aftermarket took a but of persuasion with sand people.

In Europe it is generally the way (I served in the West German Army and later as LEO) that you'll only get issued a limited number of magazines for
your duty gun(s). In most cases it is considered that a magazine dropped is a magazine lost.

I'm not speaking of competition shooting here.

Magazines, once empty, go back into the pouch or into a dump pouch, to be later on refilled.

Seriously, we are the last state up here with decent firearm rights, and on the chopping block now that VA lost most of theirs.
