New Guy Looking for Guidance
« on: July 30, 2020, 07:44:44 PM »
New to the forum and CZ handguns.  Experienced shooter, previously shot competition bullseye pistol (.22 and .45] currently shoot smallbore rifle and lever gun silhouette, and .22 bpcr.  Looking to buy a CZ to shoot informal paper target at 25 and 50 yards and steel at the same distances.  I’m 73 and can still shoot iron sights reasonably well, but can see the day coming when a red dot will make it easier.  My needs are a good trigger and accuracy.   SA/DA trigger is acceptable if the SA trigger isn’t heads and shoulders better. The ability to mount a red dot would be nice, but could live with the ability to have the slide cut at a later date.  Your suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks, Tom

Welcome to the Forum TJ
If you're looking for both a great 9mm and an amazing .22, look into an SP-01 and a (CZ75) KADET 2
This KADET Kit in particular; https://czcustom.com/cz-75-kadet-adapter-2-cal-22-lr-black-polycoat-91610.html
Not this one; https://shop.cz-usa.com/cz-75-kadet-adapter-ii-75-omega-22lr-adj-sights-10rd01610.html
And not the SP01 KADET Kit; https://czcustom.com/cz-shadow-sp01-kadet-kit-22-lr.html
Note the different Slide Profiles at the Muzzle
The first one is a TRUE KADET Kit, and has the ideal Slide Profile for the SP-01 .... and is very VERY accurate
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !

Wow, I had no idea that first one was even made.  I thought the only real kadet kits had the standard slide profile.

Well, I would suggest a CZ P09 in 9mm. Very soft recoil and can be cut for a red dot at a later date. I would also suggest doing a little Cajun Gun Works majic to it. I prefer DA/SA, so this is my top choice.

Another option for you could be the CZ P10F Optics Ready. I would bet some will chime in on here on how it performs and this one is already optics ready when you are ready for that.

I appreciate the comments that everyone has made.  I’m not looking for guarantees, but a rough idea of out of the box trigger and accuracy.  How much of a difference is there, if any, between a shadow sp-01 and let’s say a shadow 2. Is the trigger better on one than the other?  Is one is more accurate than the other, if so why? Thanks, Tom

Any of the DA/SA WITHOUT a firing pin block will have a better trigger than one with i.e. S2, Bull shadow, A01, etc.
I have Cajunized and CZ Custonized CZ's and the Bull Shadow has the best trigger in both SA and DA.  The SA trigger is not custom 1911 good but still close.

The Bull Shadow and (I believe) the A01 have bull barrels which can help with accuracy.
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Will the first kadet kit fit both the 75B and the SP-01?  Or do you have to file anything down to fit one versus the other?

the original Kadet will fit both of those, although it is possible that minor fitting to any individual frame might be required.

The original Kadet does not work with the Omega system, that's why the Kadet 2 was born (75B and P-01 Omega).

As Eastman said
The KADET (1 and 2) will fit both a 75B and an SP-01
Some filing "may" be needed for the Upper to fit on one or both
File it to fit the tightest Frame and you'll be golden on both
REMEMBER:
Unlike a standard Semi Auto, with a KADET Kit, the accuracy is built into the Upper and Slide to Frame fit doesn't matter AT ALL
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !

It sounds like the Shadow 2 Optics Ready would fit your needs perfectly

I have 3 or 4 times as many metal framed CZs as polymer framed models.

None of the metal framed guns shoot better groups than my P09 9MM.  Some of the metal guns shoot as good as my P07 .40.

The triggers vary on out of the box guns - unless your out of the box gun is one of the models worked on by someone else before you got it.  If you buy a pistol someone else has already worked on it should have a really nice trigger.  If you buy a true stock out of the box pistol you might get a nice trigger or you might need to replace parts to get a really nice trigger.

You can buy different grips, more/varied aftermarket up grade parts, etc. for the metal framed guns vs. the polymer framed guns.

Good luck with your new pistol.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

@barrelproofdrinker88 Go with Kadet II 01610. Kadet SP-01 01612 seems to be less well made.  I had issues with 01612 then sent it in for repair, CZUSA could not fix the problem and offered to replace it with 01610. Never had a problem with 01610.

In case you are curious about what was the problem for me: it had to due with tolerances on the slide to my hammer.  The slide on 01612 did not engage my SP-01 tactical’s sear fully after each shot, leaving my pistol to be DA only.

Second that. If you are going to shoot 25 to 50 yrs with a decent trigger and all steel construction plus optic ready. CZ Shadow 2 OR is the gun for you. You will not find much discount on this model as it's relatively new to the market (US). However, wait for for a few months things might change.
