The secret to the classic 185 & 200gr SWC in 45ACP is the amount of exposed shoulder.
In feeding a normal bullet, the ogive strikes the under-side of the hood and then glides into the chamber. But the first thing to hit on a SWC is the shoulder, not the meplat. So where the reloader positions the shoulder means everything.
•• So much so, that you need to qualify your rounds by head-to-shoulder length, and
not by OAL. (Case head; bullet shoulder)
Small changes will make big differences. And the ammo will be particular to the gun and its chamber, not the bullet.
•• Understanding that, then you will comprehend that your seating die should be seating by (pushing on) the shoulder, and not the meplat.
Hope this helps.
