308 at the range.
« on: August 27, 2020, 11:09:59 PM »
Went to a friend's place to shoot. 100° outside today. Breaking in the barrel on my Remington 700 5R. Did some lapping and polishing on the bore. Was a solid 1/2 inch shooter before. Better now. Bottom group is .252 and the top is .192. 223 holes are from me trying to shoot my ar open sights. A few more rounds and I think the 308 will be broken in.

great. if this is 100meters, then I would say that this level of accuracy is at FTR competition level. May I ask about (a) ammo- bullet, load, powder you are using, (b) optics, mount, (c) barrel. If you could show us results at 300m, it would be also very interesting.

Europe, thank you. This is at 100 yds.
Ammo: 308 win brass, fully prepared. Neck turned to uniform necks. Flash hole uniformed, deburred.
168gr nosler bt 10 thousing off the lands. 43.9 gr Imr 8208 xbr . Fed 210m primer.
Velocity : 2679 es: 41fps sd: 15.2
Leupold 3i 6.5 x20 50 lrp. Burris xtr signature rings and a badger ordnance base.
The barrel is the factory 5r barrel. Lapped and polished. Timney trigger @3 lbs.
Use load data at your own risk. Start 10% lower and work up. Also, if using other than winchester brass, reduce the charge and work back up. This load is close to max.
By using a match bullet and lapua brass I could get the es and sd down some.
No pictures other than this, but loaded info into my g7 br2500 range finder and was able to hit 8 inch gong at 600 yds without a miss in 10 shots.
I hope this is of use to you.
 Thanks

I think it's amazing. Especially with 20x magnification at 100 yards. I am shooting only factory ammo so far, but already started to collect reloading equipment. I hope I will be able to present my first results next month.

Wow!!  Great results from any barrel, much less a production barrel.  I'm thinking the shooter isn't hurting either.

Made my day getting to see some excellent results before I head to the range for some .22 plinking.

Excellent shooting!  I need to dust my 5r off and get back out there.
