New CZ Shadow 2 - What mods do you suggest?
« on: September 10, 2020, 03:29:26 PM »
Folks, I just picked up an S2 to add to my CZ collection.  Do you all have any recommendations regarding mods?  The only issue I have, is it is kind of hard to pick up that front sight, in a smoky dark indoor range, with old eyes.  How hard is it to replace the red fiber optic with one that might be brighter?Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

There is a typical set of relatively easy and cheap modifications often recommended for these pistols that are very effective.  If you simply replavce the firing pin with an extended one and a reduced power return spring, install a lighter mainspring (typically around 11.5 lbs IIRC) and a lighter recoil spring the results are very impressive. All parts are available at either CGW (Cajun Gun Works) or CZCustom for between $40 & $50 and are easy to do.  If you search you can find more specific info if you desire.  Made a huge difference with my SHadow 2.

The factory trigger on the S2 does not need any work, unless you happen to have one of those Monday built guns I guess.  It's a shame your indoor range doesn't have better lighting and ventilation.  The fiber optic front sight is the best for my old eyes, with adequate lighting. A bright white dot front sight might be more appropriate in dim lighting.

It doesn't *need* anything, but the gains from installing a CGW adjustable sear and race hammer makes an undeniably large improvement in the trigger.

I prefer the neon-green fiber optic over the red. That may be brighter enough for you to make a difference.

Replacing the fiber is easy to do. I believe Dawson has videos on Youtube showing the process. All you need is fiber, a razor blade and a lighter.

Thanks so very much!  I don’t know if I really want to make any changes right now to the trigger.  It is already so light in single action that more than once I had a double tap today.  The gun is brand new, and one of the accompanying pieces of paper had “Cajun Gun Works” stamped on it, but I do not know if CGW modified it before my LGS got it, or if they were the distributer of the gun somehow.  At any rate, ai will definitely keep these suggestions in m8nd as U get use to the gun.

Thanks so much!  Do you know from where I could purchase the fiber optic insert?

In my Shadow I only change trigger spring for -15% of strengh, main spring for 12lb., sear spring - 10% and firing pin spring -20%. Over month ago I put some straight SA Eemann trigger and green fiber optic in front sight. This configuration is enought for me.

Got my green fiber insert from Brownells. Much better for my old eyes too.

Shoot the hell out of it to get used to the gun. After a few hundreds or thousands of rounds, you’ll get a better understanding of what upgrades it needs to suit your shooting.

I use mine for carry optics division so it’s modified as far S it can go. 11.5# main spring for 5# 3.4 oz DA, 1# 9.9 oz SA, 10# recoil spring, CGW race hammer, CGW adjustable sear, extended firing pin, reduced firing pin spring and polished trigger internals.

I forget what the width of the factory fiber optic front sight is. I'm thinking around .110 or more. I remember replacing mine with a more narrow front FO sight .95W. However I do not remember the height. This front sight was ordered from Dawson.

The more narrow front sight allows more light on either side and is easier to see for my aging eyes. HTH

I don't own a Shadow 2, so I don't know which diameter fiber you need. Dawson sells them either as bulk fiber or as pre-bulbed fibers. I have Dawsons on a few pistols. The link to the video can also be found on these pages.
