Primers are the long pole in the tent.

There is brass around (e.g., at the range) and it can be collected and re-used.   There is some powder around, and I've got a lot stored around here somewhere.   I can find bullets -- 9mm plated are available directly from places like XTreme.

But 100% of primer production is going directly to the major ammo producers right now (I read in the NRA article on the ammo shortage).   I've seen primers going for auction on ***Broker.com for around $.50 a piece, presumably from left-over stocks.  I wonder where the inexpensive foreign-made primers are?  I would violate my "buy America" rule to buy some small pistol primers.

Out of Stock, everywhere!  I do like the Magtech Primers, if I can't get Winchester or Federal.  Winchester/Olin Engineers actually set up the Primer Factory in Brazil for Magtech.

Got 1000 SR primers at Bass Pro last week. Date stamp shows they were made 11/19/20. $44. They had more, but limit was 1000.

I’m literally selling guns to buy 300 blackout target and self defense ammo! >:( A friend of mine said he’d let me use his reloading tools if I bought the supplies but we can’t even find supplies. :-\

1000? My nearest store with primers has a limit of 100 primers a day per customer.  Going to take a long time to build up stock that way...

TIME for a bump!

I was in a BIG shop just west of Pittsburgh last Saturday - NICE selection of firearms, and prices ARE dropping on those.  M193 though?  STILL a buck a round, with a few hundred rounds on display.   :(

Hows the ammo sitrep in your AO?  Anyone FINDING some good deals - LGS or on-line - yet?

My local Academy is back to good stock and decent prices on most but 300 blackout and other hard to get stuff is still high. Also they’re now allowing a 4 box limit instead of 2.

Yeah I need to start going and checking with Academy again. Most of the promotional emails I get from online vendors seem to still be high priced, or shipping is really high.

Speaking of Academy......I dropped by my local one after lunch today.  They had a whole shelf full of Norma Tac-22 22lr.  That is definitely quality ammo, but at $9.99 for a box of 50......not so much!

Yeah, prices are still elevated, more so at some places than others.

Stopped by a large LGS yesterday who has not had primers in stock for a year. They had at least 100 bricks of them on the shelf. No small pistol, but pretty much everything else. A little pricey (I didn't buy any), but it's a good sign.

My local Cabelas gets shipments of primers what seems like once a month including SPP. I think things are getting better.

357 Magnole........This Academy is in West Melbourne, FL.  I would have bought some at 4.99 a box, but it can gather dust at 9.99.  They did have a ton of it.

If anyone thinks pre-plandemic pricing is going to return you will be sadly mistaken. If you don't need ammo at this point then that's good but if there is anything you'd like to stock up on I'd bite the bullet (pun intended) and get some of it now. Just as long as the obidenton administration continues to beat the anti gun drum prices are going to stay inflated. Yes some roll back has been noted but the days of $159 a case 9mm are probably lost forever.

Probably. Labor costs, material costs, building new machinery and factories all will add to the bottom line. But, given enough time, it might get close. We will see.
