The most interesting stoppage I ever had
« on: January 19, 2021, 06:02:13 PM »
I am reloading 32ACP for my Vz.61 but the last batch was a bit too long for this guy.

It didn't go fully into baterry so I helped it. The hammer did not cock. OK, I tried to manually extract the round from the chamber. Nothing, like frozen.... a little more effort.... and I only removed the casing and a powder... bullet decided to stay in :)

Turns out the rounds, although in CIP specs were little too long - probably due to the shape of the bullet...

Whoops. Been there, used a wooden dowel to tap it out. Always fun.

Had similar issue at an ASI match using a very short throat 75 and some reloads where not all the bullets were in spec.  Amazing how much effort it takes to get a .358 dia bullet out.  Especially when you are on the clock.  Fortunately that was the last of those bullets.

I was lucky it was only hair longer than it was supposed to so I took cleaning rod and just let it fall with its own weight down the barrel and the bullet fell out....

But this is what I love on reloading - you always learn new things 8)

CIP specs like sammi specs basically useless in a handloading scenario when it comes to col. Those overall length measurements generally are the maximum length a round can be and still fit the magazine. Finding the max length for your particular gun is always the best way to proceed. There are lots of good tutorials in the stickie section of the reloading forum here to help with the process.

Agree, it is just a rough reference and you need to tinker with it a bit to find a suitable setting for your gun.... 32ACP is very tiny cartridge so any mistake really leads to stoppage.... at least in my experience... 9mm seems to be much more forgiving.... also with 32ACP I have a problem that my Vz61 extracts the brass so "enthusiastically"  that I rarely find more than 70% of them... and those I find are bent as hell since they hit the roof of the range pretty hard :)

I love the tiny sucker though  O0
