Long wait
« on: October 08, 2020, 03:31:26 PM »
I fedexed my 97B to CGW today for the "E" conversion and a couple of other goodies.  I've read so much about the improvements that come with the conversion that I can't wait to get the gun back and see for myself.  I'm pretty excited.
I had rather be hated for what I am

Nice! Definitely let us know how it turns out.  The E conversion is on my "Man, that'd be nice" list of CZ handgun tweaks. With ammo being scarce this is a good time to send stuff of for work, that's for sure.

Nothing big, just an extended thumb safety and a stainless steel recoil spring rod.

I have a Shadow 2 I can play with while it's gone.  If I'm good, the wife might let me play with her P-01. ;)  I'm kind of holding off until maybe the DWX becomes a reality.

My 97 also went to CGW for the E-mod, has extended mag release, SP01 extended slide release, and CZ custom sights.  Quickly became my favorite pistol to take out.  With some mild 200gr reloads, its like shooting a 22.

Congrats on a very wise decision!  You definitely should be excited to get it back, I’ve owned many guns that I’ve modified or had modified and none of them came close to the unbelievable transformation of the CGW E-Conversion. Even in DA, I shoot this gun way better than the SA Only $3000-$4000 1911’s I’ve owned. Definitely my favorite .45 I’ve ever owned.

Considering the e mod. How much difference does it make?

Considering the e mod. How much difference does it make?

Much like the CGW 10X busing for CZ 75 variants that use the standard bushing, to some degree it is dependent on how tight the specific CZ 97 factory bushing is. I suspect that the CZ 97 has a greater variance from pistol to pistol due to its design than the standard 75 bushing. On my CZ 97 you can not tighten it all the way down because you are limited to the notch positions on the outside of the bushing matching up with the recoil spring plug. The E conversion design has a fixed position that is set during the conversion, like a 1911.

An additional benefit to the E conversion is that the factory CZ 97 bushing design can allow the bushing to move/rotate under recoil in some cases and loosen up. The E conversion eliminates this.

I have not had mine done yet because i do not shoot enough 45 ACP. Maybe one day. My CZ 97 mostly serves as a factory stock reference psitol currently. In my time tinkering with CZs i have yet too see an example of anyone who has been displeased with their E conversion CZ 97. Some folks never warm up to the CZ 97 form factor, but i have not seen an example where the E conversion specifically was called out negatively.

It looks like it's not going to be as long as I thought.  Had a conversation with David M. @ CGW (what a great guy!) to confirm the details of the build and he plans to ship the gun Monday so I should have it Wednesday.  I was prepared for this to take 8 to 10 weeks and it looks like it's going to be 5.

To really show how much the "E" conversion improves, you need to shoot an unmodified CZ97B and then a CZ97BE.

When I took some of my brothers to my favorite range to shoot a "smattering" of my CZs, my youngest brother brought his unmodified CZ97B and I brought my CZ97BE.  The difference is dramatic!

Look and feel and heft in your hand is the same, but performance...an order of magnitude better!

I just filled out paperwork and have to go through a 7 day waiting period to pick up my 97bd. That being said, with CGW claiming under a week to send it in and 6-8 weeks to complete the job, I am about to send them an email to be put on the waitlist. Come the new year I will be firing the e-converted BD... I am planning on starting 2021 with a bang.

Yeah, I put about 600 rounds through mine before it was sent in for the conversion.
And here's the timeline:  They put me "on the list" on 9/25.  On 10/5, they emailed me to ship the gun.  On 11/5, David M. called to confirm the details of the build.  He says they will ship the gun 11/9.  I think that's less than 7 weeks.
