Finally took the PCR and P01 to the Range!
« on: October 19, 2020, 06:36:33 PM »
I purchased a new PCR and steel framed P-01 in March of this year, just as Covid was shutting things down.
Well, after 7 months of ownership I finally got out to the range today and had a fantastic experience.

Honestly, I do not know which of these two fine firearms is my favorite.  That may have to be decided with more range time.
The PCR has Lok Matrix grips (thin!) and Dawson NS installed, along with the CGW lite spring kit.
The P-01 has standard grips, the lite spring kit, and FO front sight / black rear and a rail light.

I found the low profile safety on the P-01 difficult to operate and preferred the decocker on the PCR (which was opposite of my expectation).

They both did a nice job of absorbing recoil and I honestly didn't notice much of a difference in terms of weight between the two while firing, which was again the opposite of my expectation.
I do notice the weight difference while dry firing, but while concentrating on the target and my groupings I just don't seem to discern much of a difference.  Perhaps because most of my handguns are full sized, steel framed models.  Much like the stock rubber grips vs the thin Lok grips.  Handling them side by side there seems to be a huge difference, but at the range I hardly noticed.

The gentleman using the lane next to me had an LCP, I believe, and was keenly interested in the steel CZ so I let him shoot a magazine through it.  He immensely enjoyed the heft and overall feel of the CZ and now is rethinking his next purchase, as he liked how it mitigated recoil and handled.

Anyway, I am very pleased and will bring them back out with my Shadow for a better comparison.

Glad to hear that things are working out well, thank you for the post.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Yes, I was at Huron Valley Guns here in MI, and they do indeed have 9mm target ammo in stock, but the price per box makes me not want to use up my small reserve of ammo.  I probably should have spent my coin on ammo rather than new firearms.  Why adopt 2 new ones if you can't feed them!

I was torn between the PCR and P-01, finally purchased the PCR with decocker and I am very pleased. Thanks for your insight and assessment of these pistols.

I purchased a new PCR and steel framed P-01 in March of this year,

My P01 has an alloy frame and I wasn’t aware they offered the P01 with a steel frame? I have a 75 compact too and it has a steel frame.

CZ produces non-standard configurations (or at least ones that CZ-USA doesn't normally import) for various contracts. If the contractor doesn't pay, they ship them to the USA where they know they will sell.

There have been shipments of steel. railed compact frame pistols with manual safeties. Some may have even had slides marked "P-01" (stranger things have happened).

I personally prefer the decocker on the PCR over the manual safety.  It is simple to use, just a flick of the thumb, and in no way intrudes upon my grip.

The steel P01 is a simply a P01 with an all steel frame, obviously,  and no decocker (ambi safety instead).  It has the accessory rail and is not all that much lighter than an SP01.

I'm so glad I picked up a PCR back in Feb. I've made some CGW upgrades to it, and added Cool Hand G10 grips, and I'll never get rid of it. It's a "lifetime" gun as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, I sold a stainless Kahr to partially fund my purchase and will be keeping my CZ's forever.  I enjoy the compacts more than my full size.  They just fit me better.

Glad you finally got out to shoot your new pistols. I enjoy my PCR but definitely enjoy the P01 more, safety suits my hands perfectly and manual decocking is always an option if desired.

I'm feeling the same way about ammo though, in hindsight I see that I should've bought more reloading components instead of more guns lol.

Glad you're enjoying them!

I just bought (well, paid for) a P01.   It just felt so good in my hand, I was like - it's impossible to not take this home with me.  I'm so psyched.
