HBI Duckbill versus Magpul Mag Releases?
« on: October 29, 2020, 08:59:16 PM »
I see a lot of posts comparing the HBI Duckbill release to other competitors.  Has anyone had a chance to compare one with Magpul's release?

Thanks.

the magpul is polymer, and I like the feel of polymer, so that is what I got, and it is great

I bought the polymer version of the HBi Duckbill and love it.

On my welded replacement lower, I installed the Magpul version and like it, but the HBi is better, imo.

The HBI Duckbill has more of an angle to it, which I like - less effort to release and less likely your finger will slip off when doing fast mag changes. It's also good quality, which has been my experience with lots of HBI products in several of my guns.

That, and I'm not much of a Magpul fan. For a few bucks more, I think the HBI Duckbill is the better product.

i'm starting to rethink the duckbill design......i think mine is an HB but i've bought so many accessories that i can't remember......

the reason i'm rethinking it is due to the fact that several times i've been scrambling to get mine in action and the next thing i know i've bumped the duckbill and my magazine falls out....just FWIW....D I C K

I see the duckbill as a 2 handed operation but I can operate my stock CZ mag release with my right hand only while grabbing a new mag from my belt.     Much more effective for me

Why would the Duckbill require a two-handed operation? I seem to be able t operate mine easily with the same hand I'm clearing the mag with, no second hand needed, no different than the stock release.

If it takes one hand to depress the duckbill and pull the mag, don't you have to hold the gun with the other hand?

Sorry, I guess I'm not following you. In my experience, the Duckbill operates the same as the OEM mag release, and you can manipulate it the same, it's just that it offers a little more angle. There's nothing interfering with using the Duckbill with your trigger finger, in a "one-handed" release, if that's what you want to do, and more importantly - if you are using mags that drop free. In fact, because the angle put the Duckbill even closer to the trigger guard, I think it actually makes it easier.

Personally, not all the mags I use drop free, which is why I use my "off hand" to manipulate the release and clear the mag at the same time.

Strike Industries has a nice one that's a slightly different design than the others. I can actually hit the release with my middle finger on my trigger hand with removing it from the grip.

I actually went with the prostock one for that reason, it’s a bit more low profile but still effective

Fair enough.    I guess the videos I've seen show people holding the gun with one hand and with the other, depressing the duckbill and pulling the mag.

Hell...the factory mag release works great for me.
