Width of EAA Witness Slides. Large Frame vs. Small Frame.
« on: October 30, 2020, 01:36:13 PM »
I am working on a tool for servicing the EEA Witness line of pistols but I only have a large frame one to measure . Could anyone measure across the rails of a small frame one for me? Thanks.

I don’t think there is a width difference.  Being that the slides interchange on the PF and PC labeled frames.

Does PF mean full size and PC mean compact size? Meaning PF takes 14 round .40 mags and PC take 12 round mags? I ask because there allwys seems like a lot of confusion when talking about Tanfoglio frames. With out getting into competition frames or poly frames there compact and full size frames in small and large frame sizes. And thanks too EAA only importing large frames for awhile  caliber is not necessarily a determining factor in frame size. Small frames have only been made in 9mm and .40. Large frame in those two plus .38 Super, 10mm and .45.

I’m only experienced with the Poly Frames.  But the slides are all supposed to be swappable.
PC - Poly Compact,  old ones are labeled PS for Poly Small.
PF - Poly Full

I have personally swapped slides between all 3 and both the long barrel and short barrel slides fit.  The Pavona models came out after this so I am not sure those Pavona slides are going to fit PF frames.  But I have seen Pavona slides on PS and PC frames.

I don’t have personal experience but understood from somewhere that the slides also fit the metal frames.    EAA makes it so you change calibers or frame sizes quickly.  It’s one of the marketing points of the Witness line.

My guns are both older AE serial numbered guns one is a full size large frame in steel wonder finish and the other is a compact large frame blued gun. The slides are not interchangeable between the steel and poly guns because of length.

Interchangeability is not what I am looking for. What I need is the width of the rails that are on the bottom of the slides. I am working on a tool that will slide onto the rails in the same way the frame does. Hopefully the rails of both sizes are close enough. From the pictures I believe this is the case.

Thanks for the pictures Flareside!

I know you are looking for the width. I'm just trying to keep myths from spreading! Somebody out there has the right information to answer your question but they might not know because they don't know the differences in the frame sizes.

Joe, I’m happy to help as I pretty much have all variants. However, I’m not clear about exactly what you’re looking for. Can you post a picture using your large frame pistol and indicate the dimension desired. I’ll then take the same measurement on multiple small framed Tanfoglios.

Thanks for the offer Bret. I have sent you a PM that I hope explains why I haven’t posted a picture.

I have an EAA Witness 9mm small frame imported in ‘94, the frame rails measure .862-.863.
At the muzzle end it measures .859 for an inch or so.
Measured with an accurate (i’m pretty sure) micrometer.
Hope this helps.

I texted Joe measurements from several different small framed variants.  He should have all the measurements he needs now.
