SAR K-12 alternative sights
« on: November 08, 2020, 11:44:18 PM »
Hi folks,

Has anyone figured replacement sights for the SAR K-12?

I am looking to replace the front sight, but I am not opposed to replacing both.

Thank you for the help!

I wonder if Patriot Defense in Kemah, Texas might be able to help. Maybe shoot them an email and ask them, can’t hurt.

I'd love to know about a rear sight replacement as well. It's nice that it's adjustable, but not nice that the adjustment screw moves at will and won't hold a zero. Not happy about that, but haven't yet gone to the range with loktite to fix. I'd like to replace front and rear with something more visible.

Those are exactly my problems as well!
If the rear sight is adjusted to the lowest, it stays put.
However, it shoots too low.
When I adjusted it up to be where I think it should be, it held for one range session.
On the next one, it started shooting too high. I find out the screw is loose, and it does not "click" at all.
Now I can shoot it well if I tilt the slide to see the "path" to the front sight.

Perhaps I do not understand how I am supposed to shoot "the best type of sights, black on black without reference points", I am not the best shooter in the West.
None the less I want the sights, or at least the front one, gone!

On there face book page, members have said the they have had success replacing the front sight with a Baby eagle sight sold here, minor fitting required.
https://dawsonprecision.com/dawson-precision-desert-eagle-baby-eagle-fiber-optic-front-sights/

And with the rear sight after I have the correct height I removed the screw (counting the revolution) and put blue loctite. So far its holding.
Other have used E2000 to hold the adjustment screw.

This is most excellent news! Thank you!

Do you know what height? Just measure the stock one from the top of the slide to the top of the slide?

Thanks

JP,
I found the post and the OP said,
"....135X.125 but if I did it again I would get the one height size shorter and narrow..."
He also mentions
"... It requires a little fitting, i.e. sanding bottom of dovetail, or slightly fling the front taper..."

NP JP,
I think the FB page is SAR-USA.
Also FYI, another poster mentioned that the grips for a P-01 work on the K-12 too, even with the flared magwell.

The P-01 grips (I have Omega) do not work on the K-12. I have Cajun grips in my P-01, they are not even close to fitting. I do not remember where are the original rubber ones, but I doubt they will fit.

The Lok grips small frame Tanfoglio short high fit on top of the magwell.
If one wants to remove the fat @$$ skirt like me, the only option is to modify the medium length a little. That leaves the slot machined in the grip for the magwell to slide on uncovered.
The other alternative will be to modify the long length, but that would require removing much more material from the lower back of the grips.
I bought another front sight, but I am still too lazy to try it. :-(
