SP-01 Shadow Slide compatibility
« on: November 25, 2020, 11:58:29 PM »
Super newb here.
I have a manual safety SP-01 and a regular at my local gun shop is selling his complete SP-01 Shadow slide.

Question will this be a direct replacement on my SP-01 frame?

If not, what would be entailed in the swap. I would like to keep the lower the same to be able to switch between slides.

the manual safety SP-01 has a firing pin block in the slide and a FPB lifter in the frame. The Shadow slide doesn't have a FPB.
I don't look like my avatar!

I realize a slide with a fpb will not work on a frame with no fpb lifter.  But if the frame has a  fpb lifter Will it interfere at all if the slide doesn’t have a fpb?

There is nothing to gain from swapping a Shadow slide on to an SP-01 frame with the Firing Pin Block lifter installed in the frame. The absence of an FPB Lifter allows for a reduction of the Single Action reset distance and SA pre travel. The FPB Lifters presence in the frame makes it so that it requires more Trigger travel to function, with it installed you do not gain the benefit of a Shadow/Non FPB CZ.

If you try to install a Shadow slide onto a standard SP-01 frame with the FPB Lifter installed, the slide crashes into the Lifter Arm. The Shadow slides do not have the relief cut for the Lifter Arm.

So in the end it is a double whammy, there is no reason to do it and it would not work.

Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Thanks.  Then in answer to the OP’s question, he cannot use his SP-01 frame with both an SP-01 and Shadow slide.

The regular SP-01 frame can be converted to a Shadow-spec frame by removing the firing pin lifter and putting in a spacer like this from Cajun.....

https://cajungunworks.com/product/s-spacer-sear-spacer/

But then you have effectively turned your pistol into a Shadow and as mentioned, the regular SP01 Slide won't just interchange and work.  I did this switch and just kept mine as a Shadow, and sold the SP01 slide.
