CZ American 457 22LR rings
« on: December 09, 2020, 07:24:26 PM »
Hi there, proud new owner of an American 457, 22LR.  Man this thing is pretty.
I need to buy mounts/rings.  Plan on putting a spare Nikon Prostaff 4-9x40mm scope on there.  Any suggestions on rings?  I'm looking at Talley, but not sure what height to get.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
--Efren

If your scope has a 1-inch tube, check out Burris Rimfire/Air Rifle 11mm dovetail ring. comes in 3 heights. Also BKL 200 series. Warne rings. I like the UTG PRO POI rings for my 30mm tube scope.

Search RFC for rings and scope info, in the CZ/BRNO sub-forum.

These are low Talley rings with a Leupold VX1 rimfire with 28mm objective

I would guess medium would clear a 40mm objective.

I just got a 457 Canadian Edition and I was wondering about this too.
So ANY 11mm rings will fit it (in the correct size for the scope of course)?
I was looking at a CZ 557 in 30-06 and they said it took some proprietary mount.

@Randy, Assuming that you want a ring that mounts on the 11mm dovetail of the 457, your choices will be: 1) 1-tube or 30mm tube, 2) size of the objective will determine ring-height, low, medium, high or extra high. Also, does your 457 have rear leaf sigh? Are you going to keep it or remove it? We’re talking clearances here.

For example, my barrel has is a heavy varmint without sights. My scope is a 30mm tube Vortex 6-24x50. I’m using a UTG PRO P. O. I.  30mm medium 11mm dovetail set part no. RDU013015. Clearance over the barrel is minimal but good. My alternative choice for rings would be BKL-300 or BKL-301.

On my son’s 457, I put on a Area419 30 MOA rail first.  Then medium height Vortex Pro rings.  I have plenty of room to clear the 50mm objective on the Vortex Viper PST.

Yes I am mounting on the dove tail.
No there is NO sights on it at all right now.
I have a 3-9x40 scope here (don't ask me where I got the stupid thing people just give me boxes of gun parts LOL) so am assuming the objective is 40mm???  Low rings would work?
If you haven't guessed I am a scope NEWB at 53. My eyes finally got bad enough I couldn't tell the difference between a squirrel and a moose using iron sights  ;D

It will help if you share what model 457 you’re mounting the scope on and what model scope you’re using. Are you shooting from the bench or off-hand or both?

How you use the rifle determines how high (or low) your scope needs to be mounted. For example, if you shoot prone, you want a lower mount. If you shoot bench-rest, you’ll be better off with a higher mount to avoid neck-strain.

If you want to know more, go to RimFire Central, sub-forum CZ/BRNO and search for scope and rings. Lots of good advice there.

It is the American with a 20" threaded barrel.
The rifle will mostly be used for bench shooting.

There are a few ring height calculators out there.  Here is one

I found 2 sets of gently used UTG rings (med and high) up here in the Great White North for a good price so I'll start with those and work from there.

Thanks for the help I will report back when I get things all set up.

My 2cents.
CZ has 11mm dovetails.
Spend 100bucks and get the 419 machined base. Fits the dovetails, allows any ring use, has a level and looks good.
