No more range time for a while, for a great reason
« on: December 10, 2020, 10:44:50 AM »
You have seen that private range I am allowed to use, right up the street from me? One of the finest things anyone has done is to allow me to use the place...but no can do now. Did I do something wrong? Not in the least - IT RAINED! The dirt road in has a section of soft dirt about 75 feet long and the last time I tried to take the People Mover in there, (is NOT four wheel drive), I was moving about 1/4 mile an hour while spraying mud all over the back of the thing. Made it, but I'd like to not try that again any time soon.
BUT, I cannot complain - we live in the desert down here and all rain is a blessing. There are some very happy farmers right now.
So, how many of you get blocked out of your favorite range by weather? Years ago I got chased off the CG range by a VERY slow moving front - watched it come down the hillside behind the range right for me as I frantically packed up my gear, and made it to the car right as that gully washer hit like a typhoon. Whew!

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges - Tacitus

Inter arma enim silent leges - Cicero

I wasn't born in America, but I got here as fast as I could.

Cars/truck and mud are funny things.  I got my little coupe stuck in the yard last Saturday.  I needed to get the car out of the way so we could unload a new gun safe from my youngest son's truck till I get a place inside sorted out to place it.

My Coupe weight about 3600 lbs. has a V6. 6 spd. manual, traction control, high performance summer tires, positraction rear end, etc.  I fired it up, backed it out of the garage and stopped.  Turned the wheels to the left so I could get out of his way and got it stuck right there when the front end started sinking into the wet dirt/grass.  The back tires just started spinning.  Got some small boards under the back tires (1/2" by 3" treated stuff) and gave it the gas and it pulled up on the small boards and backed up straight.  Backed it on up to the driveway between the carports and parked that muddy little sucker in front of my truck.

Then my son back his truck up to the garage and we unloaded the safe.  His truck is a 1 ton, crew cab, 4WD, 8 ft. bed monster with 38" tires and a 6" lift kit.  He didn't spin a tire and he didn't sink in.  I bet that sucker weighs close to 7 or 8,000 lbs.

My car needs a bath, bad.

That is the 2nd time I've gotten that Coupe stuck in the mud when the yard was wet.  Never get the other vehicles stuck in 2" of grass/mud.  I'll bet it wouldn't go worth beans in the snow either.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I shoot at an outdoor range here. The only indoor range costs about 3x the price. Winter weather will limit my time on the range though, in fact, we are supposed to have rain mixed with snow this morning.
I've always preferred shooting outdoors.
I've found that growing up in the sixties was a lot more fun than being in my sixties.

No range time shortage with me.
Shoot at three outdoor ranges exclusively and the weather/conditions mimic what I experience during hunting seasons.
