Steel ammo
« on: January 20, 2021, 09:13:07 AM »
Does steel ammo void any cz warranties? Or cgw or cz custom waranties?

I only bought a handful of the stuff to get me through a week or 2.

No, unless it's specifically called out in your owner's manual.  Generally, owner's manuals indicate that ammunition must meet SAAMI or CIP specifications.  If that's what the manual says and that's what's on the box, you're good to go.  All that said, there's no guarantee that it will work reliably in your gun.  You'll just have to try it to see.

Steel-cased ammo is not the best, but to my knowledge doesn't void any warranties or add to any appreciable chamber wear. However, the ultimate authority will be the web pages from each of those entities.

For the most part, the participants in this sub-forum greatly prefer brass cases for no reason other than that they are re-loadable. So 99% of the conversation here is focused on brass, but that shouldn't put you off the occasional use of steel-cased ammo.

Just my 2 cents.

and in contrast, my 75B, would not shoot steel ammo at all.

What did it do? FTE? Stovepipe? Double feed?  Mine used to stovepipe until I cleaned under the extractor and put a +10% extractor spring in.

CZ does not recommend Steel ammo, as it does not expand like brass.

well it's been monnths, but i seem to recall failure to eject, and stove piping.

i clean my guns like they were just built and rolled off the factory conveyor belt, so much so, you could eat off them.

in the owners manual i think it is said to NOT use steel ammo.

Was this was just one box of one brand ?
Sounds like you got a hold of an under-powered batch.

This is from the manule for my CZ-75 cir. 2013.

"OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Ammunition
Use only factory manufactured ammunition of appropriate caliber, which are in
compliance with CIP regulations (International Proof Commission for Firearms) or SAAMI
(Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute Inc. of the United States). The use
of other cartridges could damage the handgun or cause injury to the shooter."

I couldn't find anything about steel BUT I could have overlooked it.
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Wolf, steel ammo.

frankly, it shot VERY WELL, in my Glock, Canik, so under powered was not an issue, if you ever shot a Canik.

i don't know what to tell you. i may have seen/read that in my owners manual, my 75B  was built in 2017 as i recall, and i bought it new, in 2020.

if i did not read it in the manual (it's not with me right now, and i ain't gonna go looking for it), then i may have read it on another forum where others with the CZ have had problems with steel cased ammo.
