Trimming Nightmares - Lee Quick Trim
« on: January 27, 2021, 01:02:55 PM »
So...worked up the attitude to "Trim all my 30/06/Garand brass" and prep for reloading. Previously I used the lee quick trim with different trim dies and I think everything worked pretty decently, but this time around the adjustment collar isn't working as normal.

I trim all my cases to 2.495", I noticed that the adjustment collar had little effect when making a click or 2. I will max the adjustment out and it kicks in and trims down too short. I try bumping it up a notch or 2 from there and nothing, Full asjustment the other way and it trims, but too long. Here is the weird part. After a case has been trimmed too short, I can put another case in and it wont touch the face of the neck, or may just barely hone it, but no trimming. turn the adj. rin Max out and it trims as expected. WTH..weird. I tried q tipping the die body clean still same.

Having just trimmed 6ARC cases with the WFT I just said screw it and ordered a couple more WFT in 06 and 6.5CM

I also recently sold my Dillon RT1500 setup - I bought it used and never used it. I like the idea of not touching brass, but I dont have a case feeder on my 650. I like the WFT because you can just use a hand drill and spin 'em while watching  TV/YouTube. I think it will suffice until things get back to normal.

I also THOUGHT about just getting the trimmer body and different heads, but wasn't sure if you would have to re-adjust the cutting head when switching calibers, so I just bought the dedicated unit. Can someone chime in on that?

Thx!
