Colt SAA
« on: March 02, 2021, 01:11:04 PM »
Finally bought my first Colt Single Action Army. Made in 1979, 7 1/2” barrel, .45 Colt caliber, colour cased. Looks almost new except for a couple of small handling marks. Paid $ 1300 which I think is reasonable, most of them here (Switzerland) are advertised for quite a bit more.

And I already have a few boxes of ammo for it

Do they shoot cowboy action matches over there in Switzerland?

I honestly don’t know, but I doubt it.

For me it will be a range toy.

welcome,

way cool.  I love those older nostalgic SAAs.  just growing up (some will disagree with that) with the cowboy shows makes me happy.  I finally took the plunge years ago and bought my first CF Colt SAA.  but its the shorter tube style like the Duke used in his movies.  I got a LNIB one just because i wanted to play and shoot it.  It was, to me LNIB, but sold as "Used".

fwiw and imo, the price you paid now isnt an issue since you will figure out later if/when you decide to sell it, that you did good and chances are you will wish you bought a truckload at that price.

also, im always amazed at how some toys around the world end up in other places.   im sure it took some $$ to get it exported/imported overthere.

Are you allowed to reload in Switzerland?   depending on the price of ammo and the other toys you have, it maybe worth it to reload.

Yes reloading is allowed, and I’ve reloaded a lot in the past but not recently.

I took it to the 25 meter indoor range and shot about 70 rounds in two different sessions. Tried one-handed and two-handed, one-handed being quite difficult for me since I’ve hardly ever shot like that in the last 30 years. It shoots a bit left for me, not much I can do about it except aiming right.

Not a precision or match gun but lots of fun though

What a beauty! I love the case-hardened frame. Congratulations!

Hopefully CZ Colts will be just as pretty ;)
