Shadow 2 mag release and spring questions
« on: March 15, 2021, 05:54:56 PM »
Ok, this is going to sound weird but I am wanting to do a couple of things to my Shadow 2 that I just got to make it less of a competition pistol and more of a duty type pistol. I know, I could have gotten an SP01 but the Shadow 2 is the most badass pistol I've ever held in my hands. Is it possible to swap out the mag release for a standard 75b release?

Are the springs on the S2 lighter than an SP01? My P01 hammer hits a lot harder than the S2, or I perceive it that way at least. I realize the pistol is optimized for speed and accuracy but would there be any quantifiable reliability gain by going to a heavier spring set? I realize this might make my trigger a bit heavier but that isn’t a big deal if it’s not drastic. I appreciate any input!

I think you should be fine swapping for a standard mag release, can confirm when I get home if nobody else chimes in. You can probably trade for one here on the forum if needs be, I know I really like the shadow 2 paddle release and would gladly trade a standard one for it. As far as the springs I don’t think you would gain any “reliability” per se in swapping out for heavier springs, although changing out the hammer spring for a heavier one might make you “feel” a little better about the first DA trigger pull being safer for carry, especially considering the shadow 2 does not have the FPB like a standard 75b or variant.
Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

You can remove only mag release paddle and you will have standard SP-01 mag release.
S2 hammer spring is 14. I think P-01 is 15. you can put 15 in your S2

I greatly appreciate your input! I plan on keeping the factory mag release but if it was feasible, I would purchase a standard 75b release to use  if it's compatible. I checked on CGW's website for a 75b release and in the drop down box for " does it fit my gun", it didn't show to be compatible with the S2. I have to place an order at CGW anyway so I'll pick up a heavier hammer spring while I'm there.

I didn't realize the mag release below the enlarged pad was a std 75 style. I'll have to give that a try. Another option I thought of is getting a LOK pad and trimming it to the size of the release body underneath it. Good to know about the springs, Thanks for the info!
