What are you going to do with it?

For me, I'd go with the longer barrel.  I don't have much use for the shorter barrel 22lr.

The 457 Varmint that I got my son for Christmas is a tack driver.  Love that gun.  Pulled the action and dropped it in an XLR chassis and it's so much fun to shoot.

A .22LR reaches max velocity in even a 4.5" barrel, I think.  If you put a scope on the rifle, the sight radius isn't a factor.  I'd go short.  But I'm a pistol shooter, so I'm perfectly happy with short barrels anyway.

Shorter is stiffer so theoretically a more accurate barrel and almost all 22 L.R. ammo has reached it's maximum velocity in around 16 inches. But I like the looks of longer barrels. Off a rest there's no difference in handling but if your going to take it in the woods a shorter barrel might be easier handling. Mostly it comes down to what you like there aren't any hard or fast "betters" really between them.

I have the 457 pro varmint, 16. I like the CZ quality.
I use it, suppressed, for rabbits and critters. With the 16, and the can, still a short package.

I am thinking of giving that NRL stuff a try. Was looking at the 24, which seems a little too long to be handy for moving around. The added length really does not give any sight radius as you are scoping it. Velocity gain after 18-20 will likely be minimum.

I bought a 20 inch bull barrel and had it threaded. That seems to be a good balance of all 3.

There really isn't much if any advantage to going with the longer barrel for a 22lr round.  I have a 16" bull barrel on my 10/22 that is very accurate out past 100 yards if I have my head on straight.

If not using iron sights and taking advantage of the longer sight radius the shorter barrel is the way to go.

thank you - one and all for the replies.

I actually couldn't find the At-One model - so I opted for the ProVarmint and freekin' LOVE THIS RIFLE.!

Now to find some mags for it.

Thanks again for the replies.
