Was there a factory bright nickel 82?
« on: April 15, 2021, 01:34:34 PM »
I rounded up a new to me CZ82 that I think is nickel finish, but has been polished. At first I thought it was a hack job paint strip and polish of raw steel, But detailed inspect shows the gun is done right, inside and out is nickel with blued trigger guard and controls...PLEASE give your input on this one....

Scott, I really like the look.  I have a 1988 model that I sent out to have a nickel finish put on and it has held up really well.

Thanks, there's something just a little odd about this one...Pretty sure it's aftermarket nickel and polish. I can't find ANYTHING about possible factory bright finish...Is that yours in your avatar? NICE!

Sorry, but can't answer your question about nickel as a factory offering.

I posted some pics on my restoration a while back on this thread: Refinish/restoration project complete.

Yours looks nice but I don’t believe it is a factory finish.  These were all painted.  Someone must’ve stripped what was left of the paint and had it nickel finished.  The trigger guard was originally blued and remains as such.

I stripped the paint off mine and gave it a cold blue finish.  You can search on my username and find it.

Never say never with CZUB with respect to unusual finishes and configurations even though these are service pistols and their production life didn’t experience the same evolution of the CZ 75 into multiple platforms and commemorative issues. The vz. 82 (Makarov) and the CZ 83 (initially 7.65 mm) were developed in response to a need by Czechoslovakian defense and internal security forces to replace the vz. 52/50/70 pistols. The 82 has the painted finish and the 83 has the blued flats and matte rounds. It would be highly unusual for UH to make a military proofed/acceptance marked, factory nickel plated vz. 82 in 1989.

One odd possibility is that it might have seen use in Israel. They sourced weapons from all over and sometimes refinished firearms in a variety of ways, including nickel-plating some handguns. I dont think such guns always had Israeli markings.

There were factory nickle pistols.  I was stationed in Germany when I purchased my 83 and factory nickle was an option.  Purchased a blue one in 7.65 and sadly let it go.

Was a factory nickel finish available in the vz. 82? The CZ 83 in the 7,65 and 9 Browning were meant for export markets so had another finish option. I like the 7,65 caliber CZ 83s the best for range time. The one on the left is a 1984.

Well, the top pistol in the bottom photo is factory matt nickel...I’m asking about the polished nickel one in the pics...
