Finalizing my COAL:

New member here........ :)
Having reloaded for MANY years, I am experienced with loading for the 1911/2011 and Glock platforms. For 9mm, I have loaded mainly 147g Zero JHP along with several different coated lead in the same weights. Have also loaded with Montana Gold 147g CMJ. My preferred powder has been N320 with new Starline or once-fired WW brass, and Federal Match primers.
I have now acquired my first CZ pistol to start competing in my local USPSA club shooting Production Class. I purchased a Shadow2 Orange edition, and have the barrel out and have started following Mr. Wobbly's excellent "How to determine max oal for a CZ pistol".
Using new Zero 147g JFPs along with once fired Winchester brass, I decided to make up 7 dummy loads to use following the directions outlined in the referenced article above. Results are:
#1: 1.159"
#2: 1.159"
#3: 1.163"
#4: 1.157"
#5: 1.158"
#6: 1.160"
#7: 1.158"
I threw out the highest and lowest measurements. Total for the other 5 was 5.794" which averages out to 1.1558". After subtracting the recommended 0.015", I've got 1.1438"; rounded up to 1.144".
From my previous experiences with N320 and 147g CMJ/JHP bullets, I have used an OAL of 1.142" for many, many reloads. With the 147g Hornady XTP bullet, which IMO the Zero 147g JHP mimics very well, VV reloading data lists the OAL of 1.142". Hornady #9 uses an OAL of 1.100" with this particular XTP. Richard Lee's Modern Reloading #2 lists 1.142" OAL when using all VV powders shown.
My primary question at this point in the process is: would those familiar with the CZ platform and determining the "Chosen" OAL recommend I start my ladder tests using 1.142" OAL or should I use 1.140"? Or something a bit higher?
I will chrono my test loads looking for a 133-134PF and best accuracy from a rest. Final testing will be done on a friends Ransom Rest.
Again, as this is my first experience with the CZ platform I want to get started on the right path to accuracy and reliability.
Thanks and I appreciate any feedback!
:)

Your math is incorrect. Dropping the high and low, and adding the other 5, gives 5.794. Divide by 5 = 1.1588, rounded up to 1.159.

What he didn't tell us was that he subtracted the 0.015" from the 1.159".

Quite possible, and I thought of that.

Sorry, VV never recommended any such number. They simply reported what they used in their test. That's a psychological block you'll need to break.

>> Your 2 choices are within the normal production tolerance for handloaded ammo. Thus there's no difference between the 2 choices.
>> Your Win brass is going to offer less clearance for deep seating of 147gr bullets. That's the only thing that might trip you up.
