Question about markings on the CZ-50
« on: April 18, 2021, 07:36:35 PM »
My dad purchased a CZ-50 pistol with a marking on it that says "Praha" next to the Ceska-Zbrojovka name. The serial number is also in the 500,000's whereas any info I've found points to these guns starting in the 600,000's. He's been looking for info for days and can't find anything and it's driving him crazy. Can anyone here tell me anything about the markings?

Berger's Know Your Czechoslovakian Pistols says that the Vz 50 serial numbers started with 650001 and were made in Strakonice.

Vz is short for Vzor or model in Czech.

I suspect that your father has a different and earlier model and that the "50" that may be stamped on the pistol is the year produced and NOT the model number--a common mistake that I've seen on gun auction sites.

Tell us more about the pistol...other words, markings, caliber or even post a photo.

Praha is Prague
Post pics of the pistol
Specifically the slide and grip frame, that's where markings are on the first series will be, usually

I've taken a few pictures, but it seems I'm unable to upload them on mobile, I'll upload them from my desktop later today. As for now though, the gun is a .32 as advertised by the website my dad bought it from. But there's no markings on the gun itself clarifying what model the gun is. On the grip of the gun there is a marking saying NB 51, and the serial number is in the 570,000s. Other than that all I've found is the standard CZ logo, made in Czechoslovakia and the 7.65 caliber marking.
