CZ-97B Front Sight Height
« on: June 03, 2021, 10:10:19 PM »
Would anyone happen to know the height of the front sight on a 97B? It has a fiber optic front sight with a 2 dot rear sight. Thanks in advance for the info.

050-390 Dawson Precision Fiber Optic Front Sight.  Believe it is 6.5mm tall.

Good luck on your project.

All CZ's come with the same front sight height (well 75 variants) and that is a total sight height of 5.5 mm (including the dovetail mount).  Dawson doesn't specify the sight height including the dovetail so you have to subtract out the dovetail depth to get to the right height protruding above the slide (0.125").  CZ's come with two different depth dovetails depending on if there is a bull barrel or not.  The shadows and SP-01's have a bull barrel and the dovetail is 0.060 deep.  Standard 75 variants (including the 97) have a 0.085 deep dovetail.

Fuzzy steered you right given your going to use the stock rear sight, it isn't 6.5mm though.

I always recommend you install the rear sight you want first before you install the front sight (unless you are installing a fully adjustable rear).  That way you can install the rear, shoot the gun to determine any correction needed, and purchase the right height front sight.  Dawson has a front sight calculator that will get you the offset needed to correct point of impact offsets.

CZ and Dawson measure sights differently.
CZ measures total height including dovetail
Dawson measure height from slide.
5.5mm  is factory height.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I'm going to just replace the rear sight only since I'm going to go with an adjustable rear sight. I was measuring the front sight incorrectly by not including the dovetail depth. Thanks again for the info.

The oem front sight on my 97 measured .140”......just like Dawson measures them.  That is the number you want to plug into the Dawson sight height calculator if the point of impact of your factory sights are too high or low.  If you plan on changing the sights out altogether, definitely do the rear sight first.

Dillon guy.......Good to hear that the barrel bushing shim fix made such an improvement on your 97.  I would’ve touched bases with you earlier, but I seem to be blocked from sending pm’s.  I just posted a cheap, yet effective solution for a full length recoil spring guide rod.  If there is a Lowes near you, you are in business.

Florida man I saw your post on your full length guide rod idea. I’m going to give it a try. I think I have some extras in my work shop. Thanks for the info.
