decocker fully drops hammer (not to half cocked)
« on: August 11, 2021, 03:47:08 PM »
Hey everybody, been lurking for a bit and finally got around to posting.

Thanks to everyone who has posted all the info in here so far.  I have occupied many an evening browsing threads on here.

I regret it, but my first post is a bit of a troubleshooter.  I need to assistance either tracking down this issue or confirming it's a non-issue.

Just installed the CGW pro kit on my sp01 tactical.  The issue preexisted though, i had just hoped the pro kit would somehow fix it indirectly.  Picked the pistol up used.

Here's the rundown.  Cock the hammer fully and if I use the decocker (either side) it drops the hammer all the way down and not to the half-cocked position.  It also doesn't drop until i let off the decocker lever.  My p07 drops to halfcock when the decocker hits bottom.

Here's a video showing it next to my p07, as well as a partial trigger pull to half cocked with both.

Preemptive thanks

The Hammer not dropping until the Decocking Lever is released is normal operation for a CZ 75 variant decocker. The Hammer dropping all the way to the Firing Pin while docoking is not normal function. While the Fring Pin Block should stop the pistol from firing, i would avoid loading any live rounds until you remedy this issue. It is likely that the Sear is caching and not dropping back down into position to catch the Hammer on the half cock notch. If you slowly release the decocking lever and closely observe the Sear while you decock the pistol, you should be able to observe the the Sear not lowering properly.

I can think of several possible causes for this malfunction. Friction in the sear cage parts can cause things to bind and not move as designed. Adding a drop of lubrication to the sear cage parts and using a probe to shift them left and right is worth a shot to see if you can free things up. You could have a bad part or a foreign object obstructing the movement of a spring or Sear cage part. It is also possible that something is assembled incorrectly. Exploring this may require dissembling the Sear cage and inspecting the parts.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Thank you so much.  I imagine it is the sear, it is a little sluggish in there.  Will yank the cage out and rebuild it.  I used rem oil initially but can use moly from CGW this time around.

Hard to capture, but does this add any insight?

Yanking it apart in a bit regardless.

Rebuilt the sear cage and this time it's perfect.  Decocks as expected to half every time.

User error for sure.

I appreciate the assistance.

Glad to hear that you corrected the issue. Taking apart CZs is fun.

I'm thinking I somehow had the sear spring short end in the wrong place.  I prodded around a little, but not as methodically as it I were more confident in my previous work.

I just kinda pulled the pin and dumped the cage contents then started from scratch.

It is.  I'm sure it's not the last time it'll be apart.
