9mm reloads
« on: August 16, 2021, 06:17:48 PM »
Having loaded more than 35K rounds for my Hi-Power and um, Glawk 19 over the last 7 years, I needed to change my COAL from 1.16 to 1.10 for this steel framed Compact I just got. The plunk tests on my go to load were not compatible with the CZ chamber (bullet ogive issue). The 100 rounds of "new load" with reduced COAL and less powder worked fine this morning. Factory Gold Dots worked fine since the get go.

Common issue when reloading for CZs. Other option is to get a reamer and lengthen the throat.  Currently waiting on my reamer to arrive.

I love gold dots and sierras in my 9mms. Since most of my 9mms are cz, (1 Browning high power and a stray uzi) I load all for the cz's. The others seem to digest them well.

I'm going to work on the 1.10 and adjust the charge until I can source some more hollow points. Looking at RMR right now.

It is widely recognized that the standard "in house" RMR JHP and FMJ have a VERY blunt ogive which typically drops the Max OAL in a CZ chamber to around 1.060". If you have concerns with 1.100", then even shorter may give you heartburn. The bullets load and feed very, very well at the foreshortened OAL. Zero issues in several thousand through an SP01... I'm just reporting.

For a more traditional OAL, suggest you try the RMR Match Winner instead.

I don't have issues with a less than 1.10 COA, just never needed to load for my Hi Power/Glawk 19 that short. The rounds I made a few days ago using the "stickied" process at 1.06 with the in house RMR worked just fine today. The load is RMR 124gr RN, 5.4gr of Power Pistol, 1.06 for an average velocity of 1105fps using a LabRadar chrono from the Compact.

The freebores on the Glocks is getting shorter, generation after generation. The G19 I loaded for was not much greater than my CZ SP01. Working OAL is a story all about how a specific bullet interfaces with the barrel... not simply "the barrel".

I have just kept my COAL down to right about 1.095 with almost every bullet profile I use, cast and jacketed, and have found that to be a happy medium with my CZ pistols.

FWIW, I use a lot of RMR 9mm FMJ RN 115 and 124 grain bullets. OAL = 1.135. They work great in all my guns, including my only CZ, an S2O.
