Compensator on a carry gun: Yes or no?

I originally tried to carry a P10C with a micro comp, but recently removed the comp.  I found for the added dimensions there was very little improvement in recoil control.  It not only makes the gun more awkward to conceal, but also makes it harder to find a holster that will fit.  I think comps have a place for target shooting but I'm not so sure for a carry gun.  Thoughts?

Also, I do still have a comp on my Glock 20 10MM.  It's more for outdoors and bear country, so I have more options to carry it comfortably.  It's a large 3 port comp and it does seem to lighten the recoil enough to justify having it on.

Not for me.  Comfort and concealment ruled for a CCW in my opinion.

Nothing wrong with compensators on a carry piece, mine are built-in on two pistols and does not hinder holster usage.

Many people feel it's the height of the grip frame that causes the most concealment issues rather than the length of the barrel.

Some people say/believe a compensator on the end of the barrel is better than a ported barrel and slide due to velocity loss on the ported barrel.

I'm one of those guys who never really figured I needed either.  Awhile back I bought an M&P PC 9MM 5" slide kit for my old 1.0 M&P in one last effort to improve it's accuracy.  Well, I really can tell the difference between the muzzle rise with the ported barrel/slide vs. the 4&1/4" barrel/slide original to the frame.  As far as I'm concerned, it works.  At least with a big charge of slow burning powder under the 115 grain bullets.  I've not really tried heavier bullets or fast burning powder in it.

The 5" M&P 2.0 9MM has a threaded barrel on it (Apex, another attempt to improve accuracy on an M&P) but it's not worth the cost of a compensator.

The Urban Gray P01 probably is worth buying a compensator for and it may get one sooner or later.

I'm using a Lone Wolf threaded barrel and comp.  I tried to get the SKUs for you but their website wasn't loading for me :/

Anecdotally the recoil feels more manageable, and those ports look large enough to make a real difference.  No reliability issues thus far.  I've shot probably 250 rounds with the comp on so far.

Isn't a comp on a carry basically a flashbang in your face at night tho? Never tried it for that reason alone.

After building a 9maj gun with comp, building the ammo testing etc..  I now understand the reasoning behind a comp. 95% is market hype. It does help tremendously on open major guns, but is a waste with anything else IMO. I would prefer ported over comp for carry, but then like someone said if its dark and you have a comp/ported you have 1 shot before the blast/blinding/flash, better make it count.
I had a 22 volquartsen pistol with a 6" barrel and just had to have the comp because it looked cool. - waste that gun is sold now.

Ok glad others think so also. Was beginning to think I was alone lol. I had a G22 when they first came out ages ago and I carried it around for a long while then I saw they made a G22C. And boy did I think it was cool and wanted one so bad I nearly went and traded it in for one. Then someone told me why police depts etc said about them in dark and I was like oh yeah ok never mind lol. And it's never crossed my mind since. I've seen companies like springfeild release compensated hellcats and stuff since. And yeah I'm like it seems fine for range fun maybe but can't see it being too practical for full-time carry. Maybe just daytime carry If there's such a thing. But my carry guns I plan to have on me at all times so I think a comp may not be for me. I have a colt railgun I'd like to throw a comp on just for looks maybe one day. I think those look cool on 1911 style guns especially.  But yeah also they say most defense scenarios are pretty up close. So I also don't see them bringing any added benefits in that area. I mean follow up shots ain't too hard with a 9mm when toe to toe with a target much as it is already. So I'd say yeah the bad outweighs the good in that aspect
