Shadow 2 tuning

Good day all,

Firstly my apologies if this topic has been posted previously.
I'd like to know what changes should I make on my CZ Shadow 2 to:
1) reduce trigger pull for first shot to 5lbs (2.27kg) and 3lbs (1.36kg) for every shot/subsequent shots fired.
2) reduce single action pre-travel

Please note that I compete in IPSC PO (production optics) and not all modifications are allowed.

Pretty much what I did.  I also added a reduced weight firing pin spring.  Yielded a 6 lb DA pull and 2 lb SA pull on both my Carry Optics (USPSA) guns.  I thought about doing more, but that’s all the guns really need IMO.

A member of this forum pointed out to me that the extended firing pin is a safety issue, and that they aren't recommended anymote.  I removed the one on my Shadow 2 but kept the reduced power spring with no reliability issues even though I am running a 10lb mainspring. No issues with a 10lb mainspring and standard firing pin on my AccuShadow 2 or S2O either.

If it is a safety issue, CGW and CZ Custom won’t be selling them at all.

I’ve shot my shadow 2 in USPSA since buying it new in 2018. It only becomes a safety issue if you misuse it. There are many competition shooters using it without any problems.

Just like any guns without a firing pin block, they can go off when dropped at a certain angle and hit the deck on its hammer like what happened on a match killing an RO a year or so ago in New York.

Each person must make their own choice.  However, if the extended firing pin introduces a potential safety issue, which it clearly did in the above noted incident and subsequent testing, in which pistols with standard length firing pins didn't exhibit this danger, and isn't required, then why take the chance?

Like you said, it’s all about making your own choices. I chose mine and you chose yours so that’s the end of it. You need to tell CGW and CZ Custom to stop selling their extended firing pins then since they’re a potential safety issue 😆.

The OP asked for mods to lighten up his trigger pull so I posted what I did on mine. DA 5# 5 oz, SA 1 # 9.9 oz. It’s up to him to decide what he wants to do. Besides, not all guns light off primers reliably with a light main spring and stock firing pin combo.

He’s going to be using it in competition so he needs all the things he can do to make it better for the matches he’ll be shooting at.

OP, you can also buy the 0.0mm or 2mm short reset disconnector from the IPSC store or seboweapons.com for a shorter reset if you want.

2. Any specific brand to recommend?. And how does it affect optics (C-MORE RTS2) durability, since it is not mounted on OR slide?
3. Does installing extended firing pin require reduced power firing pin spring?

Also I would like to hear your thoughts on this product:

2. CGW, Or any offering from Cesar shop, IPSC store or Seboweapons since you’re in Europe. Having the optics won’t be a problem. However, versions 4 and older are known to go bad so make sure you’re using V5. I personally use a 11.5# main spring, 9# recoil spring, reduced trigger return spring, extended firing pin spring and stock firing pin spring.

3. No. However, guns have differences and that’s something you have to try yourself to see if it’s reliable in igniting the primers or not.


The link you provided is a great setup. However, if it was up to me, I’ll install everything except for the following:
Stronger Extractor spring for CZ Shadow, Tactical sport - Tanfoglio stock ( you will encounter feeding issues)

Special trigger pin RC Tech for CZ Shadow,TS and Tanfoglio Stock with tool for replacment

20% lighter magazine release spring (inconsistent releasing of the mag. The stock works really well)

Lighter Sear spring ( trigger might become too light and mushy. Stock is actually nice and gives a positive reset).

I also highly recommend you to become a member of the Brian Enos forum. It’s a forum geared for competition shooters. I’m a member there as well with the same username. There are also a lot of IPSC members from Europe who are members of the forum as well. It has a dedicated sub forum for IPSC/USPSA, Steel challenge just to name a few. Check out the link below.
