A warning - don't do what I did
« on: September 01, 2021, 01:57:40 AM »
No, nothing bad, but it could have been.
Like many here, I have found ammo getting very hard to come by, and components for reloading. But when it comes to my CARRY ammo, I have to, per Dept order, carry only new factory ammo, not my own handloads. So, my round of choice has been the 135gr Hornaday +P Critical Duty. I generally changed out my carry ammo once every six months. Then, the plandemic and the triple panic buying fiasco hit.
Fast forward a year and a half to this morning. I FINALLY found some of my chosen self defense ammo, (the price was, shall we say, not nice), and I swapped out the carry magazine, no problem. The SPARE...THAT was interesting as that ammo had been in there for quite some time and they were actually literally covered in lint. Carried upside down in an OWB carrier, but under a concealing t-shirt most of the time, and they got linty as all get out. I wonder if it would have had any effect of feed and function, but I was very happy to not have to find out!
Look well, o wolves, and learn from my mistake! Check that ammo in your spare mags!

I've not "noticed" crud build up in the magazines carried in a pouch upside down (IWB or OWB).

I have had issues with magazines carried in a pants pocket.

I was unloading the P07 spare mag. (don't remember why) and when I'd push the top round out the next round would not move up.  Shake the magazine, smack the side of it and the rounds would move up.  Thumb one out and the next may, or may not, move up.  Got all of them out and was amazed at the amount of lint/crud inside the magazine and spring.

That's when I did two things.  One was stop carrying spare mags in my pants pocket.  The other was I started waxing the mag bodies inside and outside (as recommended by an older member here.  Wipe the oil/grease/dirt off with lint free cloth and alcohol (couple times) and then waxed inside and out (couple times) with NuFinish car wax.  Slick as can be.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Yep wax actually seems to repel it. I use it inside and outside the mags now. Helps them to drop free when empty also

When I was on the job, I carried a P220 W.German
I liked that Winchester Silver Tip and also Federal Hydroshock
That was years ago.
But, to your point OP, yes, that's good advice
