SP-01 Shadow vs Shadow Target 2
« on: September 16, 2021, 05:47:47 PM »
There is roughly a $500-$550 difference between the two. Beyond the adjustable sights and race style hammer on the target 2 what differences are there in the guns ? Is the Target 2 worth that much more ? Will they both need trigger work ? ( didn’t like the single action trigger pull on the SP-01 safety model I had, lots of take up which I didn’t mind so much , but then a lot of creep and the hammer would move backwards about 1/8” before falling, normal ? )

SP01 Shadow and SP01 Shadow Target 2 will have much better triggers than the SP01 pistol you mention.

Target 2 has a trigger job with Competition  hammer, short reset disconnector. extended firing pin, light FP spring, Rami FP spring. Also had SS guide rod, 11# recoil spring, full adjustable rear sight, 1mm FO rod front sight, thin aluminum checkered grips.

Thank you Stuart ! Sounds like the difference in price is warranted.

If you found some good deals you could come out ahead getting the base shadow and getting parts and doing the work. But the target2 is a good build

I was looking at similar options, with the 3 being the SP-01, SP-01 Shadow and Shadow 2 Blue/Black. Wanting to get in to some USPSA for fun and I bought my son a Walther Q5 Match so he could do it, but then discovered how nice CZs are. Bought me a 75D Compact for CC and decided I needed another CZ. The S2 Orange is too pricey for me.

Back to the options...obviously the Shadow 2 is the nicest out of the box and the most expensive . But I sometimes see an SP-01 or 01 Shadow on Gunbroker with mods such as an Apex Enhancement kit, CGW Short reset system, reach reduction, and other updates that bring the price within a few hundred dollars of the  Shadow 2.

So I guess my question is...at what point would a modified 01 or 01 Shadow be close enough to the Shadow 2, and within a couple hundred dollars of the price, to consider it as an option to a Shadow 2? Or would Shadow 2 always beat the other ones, even with mods?

I can't answer your questions, but I would add this- the SP-01 Shadow is a slightly different gun than the Shadow 2. The two have a little different feel, and they weigh differently. I would suggest that you handle both, because how it feels in the hand may make a difference to you. I've had both, and the Shadow 2 Blue is a great value. But, I prefer the ergos of the SP-01 Shadow. The differences are subtle, but they are there.

The choice between an SP01 Shadow and Shadow2 really comes down to ergonomics. Some people prefer the grip shape and neutral balance of the SP01, some like the extra forward biased weight and grip shape of the S2.

The choice between Sp01 shadow and shadow 2 is if
Longer slide barrel, checker front and backstrap, and 3 ounces are the features you want.

Performance wise the guns are equal, can be made equal.

But OP is talking Shadow and shadow target 2

I handled the Blue Shadow 2 at an LGS, and it felt awesome, both in ergos and the DA/SA trigger pulls. Another LGS has an SP-01 demo for their range, so I will actually go shoot that one.

thanks for the points. Copy on what the OP was on, but figured it was close enough that I could piggy back on it instead of starting a new thread.

The SP-01 Shadow Target II comes with a trigger that is among the best, shoots like a champ, and is equal to many competition guns right out of the box--you don't need much else.  I own it and shoot it.  Heavy as heck and that helps, plus it is super comfortable in the hand.  They did everything right with it.  It is by far the highest quality gun I've ever owned.  However, in the hand I would liken it to the Tanfoglio Witness full-size, small-frame (kind of rare, all steel)--they have similar attributes.  The Shadow I, by comparison, is wonderful--of course--but it is a few steps below the Shadow Target II.

I did end up buying the SP-01 Shadow Target 2. A few weeks ago they were hard to find, now seeing them everywhere. It is a nice gun and the single action pull is great, a little take up then a crisp release. None of the hammer camming of the standard SP-01 I had. I like the sights too. Haven’t shot it yet, but hope the fiber optic front sight helps  my aging eyes…

I have or had several SP01 Shadows (some CZC custom targets in the mix) and several Shadow 2's.

A 'worked' S1 was way nicer than my stock S2's. So if you're comparing finding a used S1 that has been worked with good parts and someone competent, then I'd take that over an all stock S2.

Of course, like mentioned above, they are slightly different guns, and handle differently. While I like the feel of the S2 and how I grip it... I actually shoot the S1's faster better.

And if you're comparing a worked over S1 and an equally enhanced S2, then it really comes down to how they feel and how they perform for you.

New to the forum and new to CZ pistols as well, but have owned a bunch of nice guns including assorted 1911's, Glocks, Sigs, S&W's and one H&K.  Kind of feel overwhelmed by the different models, price points and options.  I've been shooting pistols for 20+ years and own some pretty nice guns.  So I'm willing to spend some money to get an accurate and ergonomic gun with a great trigger.  This gun would be used primarily as a range gun, and potentially to get into some sport shooting ... steel challenge, maybe IDPA.

I've heard great things about the Shadow 2 (blue), but there seem to be a bunch of other options as well.  There's the Shadow 2 Orange, a Shadow 2 with Cajun Gunworks upgrades.  An SP01.  An SP01 Target 2.  An SP01 Shadow Custom.  I mean Jesus, who's naming these guns and are they just taking the words Shadow, Orange, SP01 and Target and shuffling them around?

I'm really just looking for a gun that shoots like a laser, has negligible recoil and effortless follow up shots, with great ergonomics, a light crisp trigger with a short reset and that doesn't break the bank.  But maybe that's not realistic.

At this point I think I'd either like to find a stock Shadow 2 (Blue) either new or with a few rounds through it or bite the bullet and purchase a new upgraded Shadow 2 directly from Cajun Gunworks.  Or maybe just get the Orange.  As I said before it's kind of overwhelming.  And although I want a nice gun, I also don't want to overspend.  After all, although I've been shooting a while and can appreciate a high quality gun, it's not like I'm Jerry Miculek.
